KELSO, Mrs. Mary - Age 94, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 12Noon Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 1 p.m., Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Tuesday. Mrs. Kelso will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon- 8 p.m. Monday. Mother Mary Louise Kelso was born on September 5, 1915 in Stevenson, Alabama to Edmond and Florence Nicholson. She was affectionately known as “Granny”. Mother Kelso was a resident of Flint for over 40 years. A mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. “Granny”, A Rare Jewel! She was loving, caring and compassionate. Mary means “Waters of Strength”, her heart was as deep as the Nile River; a never ending stream of water that flowed through each of us. The warmth of her touch have nurtured and eased our pain, her eyes proved to be the windows of our souls. She never met a stranger. Her hobbies included: cross word puzzles, gardening and cooking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. “Granny” leaves to cherish her beloved sister, Norma Nicholson; children, James W. (Ann) Kelso Jr., Ben (Joyce) Kelso, Prudie L. Kelso, Charles E. Kelso, Sarah J. Kelso and Patricia A. (Leroy) Daniels; a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Mother Kelso was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Kelso Sr.; children, Gloria J. Patrick, Celia A. (Donald) Wilkes, Mary A. Kelso, Sophia L. Kelso and Johnny N. Kelso; grandson, Kerry V. Kelso; sister, Maude Nicholson; and brothers, John, Jim, Claude and Eddie Nicholson. The family would like to thank the Hurley 4th floor staff, Michelle and the Hospice staff, Dr. Pandrangi and her staff, Dr. Raj and, Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart and the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church family. Granny was a member of numerous auxiliaries and organizations, to many to list.
