JACKSON, Mrs. Mary - Age 63, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at her residence. Family hour 10AM Friday, January 25, 2019 at Gospel Temple Baptist Church, 735 E. Wager St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Pastor Michael Lewis, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery,G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Mrs. Jackson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 12PM-8PM Thursday. Mary Joyce Jackson was born September 10, 1955 in Flint Michigan, the daughter of Alvin Brown Sr. and Juanita Mofett. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church in Newton, MS. Mary later rededicated her life to Christ and joined Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Flint where she served on the Usher Board. Joyce as she was affectionately known to her family graduated Flint Central High School and attended Mott Community College. She retired from Brighton Interiors where she worked as a Fork Lift Driver. Joyce had two daughters, Sandra and Tavia, whom she adored. She married the love of her life, Earnest “Wine” Jackson in 1993. Joyce was very funny, strong willed and determined. She didn’t allow life’s obstacles to hinder her. Joyce was very involved as a longtime member of the group “Show Me The Way.” She enjoyed assisting and mentoring newly visually impaired individuals with the latest technology and was the Secretary of the National Federation of the Blind. Joyce enjoyed listening to audio books, shopping and traveling. She was very generous to her grandchildren who she loved dearly, especially during Christmas time. The holiday season was her favorite time of year. Joyce loved to plan family events and promote family unity. She would have long phone conversations with family and friends that were full of humor and wit which made her enjoyable and unique like no other. On January 16, 2019, Mary Joyce Jackson joined her Heavenly Father, leaving in God’s hands: loving and committed daughter, Tavia (Anthony) Mull of Flint Twp., MI; 5 grandchildren, Zavier (Tatiana) Pettigrew, Zaquiese Pettigrew, Jamika Wallace, Montreca Mull and Anthony “Isaiah” Mull; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Nancy Clark of Mt. Morris, MI, Patricia Pierson of Spring, TX, Karen (Kent) Poteat and Carla Brown, both of Cleveland, OH; 5 brothers, Alvin (Jessie) Brown Jr. of Flint Twp., MI, Harry (Beverly) Brown of Modesto, CA, Willie Charles (Martha) Moffett of Green Briar, CA, James Brown of San Francisco, CA and Leo (Marlean) Brown of Cleveland, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special niece, Zakiyyah Vaughn Gibbs “Nita Pooh”. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest “Wine” Jackson; daughter, Sandra Long-Williams; parents, Alvin Brown Sr. and Juanita Mofett; sisters, Vivian Wilson, Nelli Brown and Denise Butt; brothers, Darell Brown and John Kennedy. The family would like to thank Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Agape God’s Love Church Of God In Christ, National Federation of the Blind, DHHS Family, Zoranda Watson and family and Rickel Simpson.
