Mrs. Mary Lee Flippen

FLIPPEN, Mrs. Mary Lee - Age 87, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at Pines of Burton in Burton, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle Church, 930 E. Myrtle St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 A Rev. Dr. Herbert Miller II officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Flippen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mary Lee Flippen was born April 27, 1931 in Bremen, Georgia, the daughter of Arthur Alexander and Ella Williams. Mary moved to Flint, Michigan in the 1950’s, initially to care for her aunt. Mary remained in Flint the rest of her life. During her early years in Flint, Mary worked as a Nanny, Restaurant Baker and Housekeeper. She was then employed at General Motors Corporation (GM) for over 20 years, retiring in 1987. Mary joined Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle where she remained a faithful member for over 50 years. She was known for baking cakes and pies, and often baked cakes for her friends that she worked with at GM. Mary was very thoughtful, and made it a point to give special gifts to family and friends for every special occasion. She was especially proud of her two daughters, referring to them as the executive and the lawyer. Mary Lee Flippen leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Honorable Trina R. Mengesha-Brown (Rodney) of Clarkston, MI; grandchildren, Roshon D. Crosslin of Dallas, TX, Marissa E. Mengesha and Troy X. Mengesha, both of Clarkston, MI; sister, Lizzie Stokes of Flint; brother, James Alexander of Bremen, GA; a host of nieces and nephews including, Billy Alexander (Glenda), Brenda Johnson and Stephanie Alexander, all of Flint, Steven Alexander (Tanya) of Warren, MI and Carolyn Hindsman of Carrolton, GA; god-daughter, Danette Neely of Dallas, TX; god-son, Dr. Charles Flippen II of Los Angeles, CA; a host of other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Crosslin; mother, Ella Glass; father, Arthur Alexander; sisters, Daisy and Rosie; and brother, Bobby Alexander. The family wishes to thank Mary’s special friends including, Liz Neely, as well as the staff at the Pines of Burton.
