Mrs. Mary Ann Cox

COX, Mrs. Mary Ann - Age 67, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 at Hurley Medical Center. Mrs. Cox will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday, June 7, 2021. Mrs. Mary Ann Cox was born January 21, 1954, in Brooksville, Mississippi, the daughter of Mr. L.A. Hill & Mrs. Josephine Anthony. She was a resident of Flint, Michigan. Mary graduated from Southwestern High School, “Class of 1971.” She was employed with Flint Truck and Bus, a division of General Motors Corporation providing 10 years of committed service. After leaving General Motors, she became a Certified Tax Account and helped members of the community with their taxes for 20+ years. Mrs. Mary Ann Cox was a wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt to many. She enjoyed traveling with her family and spending time with her friends. As the years progressed, Mary, affectionately called “Grammy”, spent special time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved laughing and relishing life. She had a colorful personality. At any time, you can be sure to hear her words of wisdom very explicitly. She was bright, forward, yet pragmatic when it came to dealing with the affairs of life. Nevertheless, you did not leave her presence without a good laugh or joke. Mary had a domestic side to her. She loved to cook, bake, and maintain a beautifully, manicured garden. When she was not fulfilling her domestic role, she enjoyed traveling with her older brother-Mr. George Anthony, IV (Flint, MI). Mrs. Mary Ann Cox leaves to treasure her memory: daughter, Ms. LaKesha Steele of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Mr. Douglas Steele; sister, Mrs. JoAnn (Sam) Blake; brother, Mr. George Anthony IV, all of Flint; grandchildren, Rashawn Steele of Colorado Springs, CO, Douglas Steele, III, Dourisa Steele, Iquandre Steele, all of Flint; Ni’yah Steele and Tyree Steele both of Colorado Springs, CO; a host of great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Samuel Cox; parents, Mr. L.A. Hill and Mrs. Josephine Anthony; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew and Susie Anthony; brothers, Mr. Louis Anthony and Mr. Arthur Lowry; sisters, Mrs. Sarah Bailey, Ms. Adele Hill, and Ms. Francis Hill. The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff of Hurley Medical Center PCU, Mr. George Anthony, IV and Dr. Janet L. Anthony.
