Mrs. Marva Jean Stephens

STEPHENS, Mrs. Marva Jean - Age 72, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at her residence. On April 28, 2020, Marva Jean Stephens passed peacefully in her own home surrounded by her daughter and companion. Marva, affectionately known as “Bobby”, was born June 8, 1947, in Mariana, Arkansas, to Earnest and Luzena Coleman. She gave her life to Jesus Christ during her childhood. “Bobby” graduated from Anna Strong High School, “Class of 1965.” In 1966, Marva moved from Arkansas to Flint Michigan. She hired, at AC Spark Plug-Local 651, retiring after 33 years. She was a faithful member at New Zion Baptist Church under Pastor-Reverend Jacob Hawkins where she served diligently on the Usher Board and as their financial secretary. Marva always kept her home immaculate and in order. Cooking was one of Marva’s ways of showing her love. Family, and friends loved her greens, roast, black eye peas, and chicken and dressing. Her expression of love for cooking was shown to others, whether it be for someone in need, someone who lost a loved one or the sick and shut in or just to cheer/brighten someone’s day. She often kept two of her favorite girls, “Dee Dee” (Armstrong) and “Pam” (Montgomery) over the weekend to play with her daughter LaShiela during their childhood. They cooked plenty tacos and ate out dinner at Chinese restaurants. Marva loved to shop at Macys’s and her favorite color was red. She was an exquisite dresser and known for her stylish hats and suits for church. Marva Jean Stephens leaves to cherish her kind, loving and devoted companion of 29 years, Mr. Cecil Hoskins; her affectionate and caring only child, LaShiela (RaMark) Darden of Flint; grandchildren, Mariah and RaMark Darden II; brother, Jean (Mamie) Coleman of Kansas City, Missouri; Nieces, Dometria (Ricky) Harrell of Kansas City, Mo. Regina Lee of St. Louis Missouri, Tameka Hackett of Detroit Michigan, Dexter Mims of Aubrey Arkansas: special daughters; Deanetrius “Dee Dee”Armstrong (Flint-Twsp), Pamela (Marcus) Montgomery (Grand Blanc), Angela Hopkins (Chicago, IL) and Tabitha Hoskins/Charlaya Miles (Saginaw, MI); special sons, Ronnie (Adrianna) Beverly of Arlington Texas, Cecil Jermaine (LaQuandra)/Kayla and Kaci Hoskins of Winterville North Carolina and other relatives and friends including dear special friends, Bessie Bush, Mary Hodges and Flo Robinson. Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Luzena Coleman; and sisters, Earnese Mims and Birthena Williams. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Hospice Services, especially Jania, Dawn and the New Zion Baptist Church family.
