WALTON, Mother Martha - Age 77, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mother Walton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mother Martha Ree Walton was born January 28, 1933 in Itta Bena, Mississippi, the daughter of Andrew Hugan, Sr. and Maezella Hampton. Mother Walton currently resided in Flint, where she relocated after moving from Alabama. It was there that she met her husband of 45 years, the late George Walton, Sr. She was a longtime member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully with Missions and on the Mother’s Board. Mother Walton had recently retired from the Beecher Community School District, where she served as a Cafeteria Monitor for the past 11 years. She enjoyed reading her Bible, watching the news, playing her hand held solitaire game, spending time with and cooking for her family and friends. Her caring personality caused her to be well loved by many. Mother Martha Ree Walton leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Linda Campbell and Barbara Walton, both of Flint; 2 sons, Henry Walton of Richmond, VA and Brian (Carol Louie) Walton of Flint; 16 grandchildren, Melkeisha, LaKeisha, Jerel, Tamika, Dominique, Delmichael, Angela, Tanisha, Selina, Brian, Ebony, Brandon, Shantale, Marcus, Darius and Maurico; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Mae (Richard) Griffin of Ypsilanti, MI; 3 brothers, Sammie (Trudy) Hugan of Ann Arbor, MI, Eddie (Beatrice) Hugan and Willie (Marilyn) Hugan, all of Ypsilanti, MI; 3 sisters-in-law, Mildred Walton of Flint, Lavern and Artis Hugan, both of Ypsilanti; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Wanda Mosby, Cynthia Joseph, Inez Jones and Juanita Banks. Mother Walton was preceded in death by her husband, George Walton.; daughter, Sydney Walton; and son, George Carl Walton. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Lewis Randolph and the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family, the staff of Hurley Medical Center, especially nurses on 9 East, Dr. Desmond, relatives and friends for all your prayers and acts of kindness.
