Mrs. Martha M. "Sue" Monroe

Monroe, Mrs. Martha M. "Sue" (Eason) - age 91, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 11am Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service at 12noon. Rev. Dr. Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11am Tuesday. Mrs. Monroe will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12noon-8pm Monday. Martha Maxine “Sue” (Eason) Monroe was born on January 27, 1923, in Marianna, AR, the daughter of Jordan and Ruby (Chatters) Eason. Martha moved to Flint, MI in 1945 and was employed by General Motors for 30 years. She united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member for almost 60 years serving on the Usher Board, in the Choir, the Mission, and on the Kitchen Committee. Martha was a diligent and willing worker until her health failed. Her hobbies were quilting, and crocheting. She loved traveling and cooking for friends and family. Martha was an awesome cook! Her peach cobbler, made from peaches she canned, was the bomb! She made homemade ice cream, German chocolate cake, melt in your mouth rolls, and I can’t forget the sweet potato pies! A little more time should have been spent with her in the kitchen. She was a Christian who really loved and trusted the Lord. Mrs. Monroe was a strong mother who ran a tight ship; she did not spare the rod. She said what she meant, and she meant what she said. She taught others to be honest, respectful, hard working, and to love the Lord. She demanded a lot but she gave a lot. If she could help you, she would, and nobody would ever hear about it. Anyone who knew her knew she was one of a kind. Martha loved to dress and look good especially for church. She did not consider herself dressed for church without a hat to match her outfit. Mrs. Monroe leaves to cherish her memory and her legacy: 3 daughters, Thelma Byers, Rosetta (Gene) Williams, and Georgia Jackson, all of Flint; son, Elbert (Elaine) Mems of Taylor, MI; 10 grandchildren, SaRyne Byers-Johnson, Erick Byers, Stacey Williams, Dranelle Williams, Simone Jackson, Reginald (Mary) Hudson and Darrell Mems all of Flint, Glen (Gloria) Byers of Lake Fenton, MI, Jewel Byers-Marshall of Irving, TX, and Teres Jackson of Port Huron, MI; 9 great-grandchildren, Jatavis (Germaine) of Jackson, TX, Jamil (Marketa) Jackson of Henderson, TN, Cameron Duncan of Torrance, CA, Marvin Johnson of Detroit, MI, Aspria Knight of Port Huron, MI, DaQwonte Williams of Lansing, Tiona (Billy) Southall, Sequoia Jenkins, and Sidney Johnson all of Flint; Mrs. Monroe was the proud matriarch of 13 great-great-grandchildren; parents, Jordan and Ruby Eason; sister, Louise (Johnson) Williams of Marianna, AR; nieces, Wanda and Sylean; a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by: husband, Claude Monroe; parents, Jordan and Ruby Eason ; sister, Ann Sweatt; and 5 brothers, Jordan, Harry, Wiley, William and John Eason. She lived a life of WORSHIP to God and SERVICE to her fellow man. Now she has gone from labor to rest and eternal reward. Special thanks to Nurse Cheri and Loving Hands, Inc., McLaren Hospice, Rev.
