MATTHEWS, Mrs. Marion Helen - Age 83, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church, 2120 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Keith Bigelow officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Matthews will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 0906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Marion Helen Matthews was born March 3, 1932 in Eudora, Arkansas the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Alexander) Ruffin. She was the second of eight children. Marion grew up being the only girl with 5 brothers, for sixteen years, before her sisters were born. She was loved beyond and above by her brothers. Marion was a member of Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children, and especially her grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Marion was a great seamstress, and enjoyed Search Word books, helping and loving her family. She was a graduate of Chicot High school in Dermott, Arkansas, Class of 1951. Our mother was very honest with us. There was never any doubt where you were with her. Mrs. Marion Helen Matthews leaves to cherish her memory: her 3 daughters, Beverly, Victoria and Tannis; 2 sons, Lewis III and Vincent; grandchildren, Marion A., Patrick and Christian; great-grandchildren, DeAndre Matthews, Makai, Makayla and Lanaya Cannamore and Leah Matthews; 2 sisters, Jimmie (Charles) Winslow and Zelda (George) McRae; 3 brothers, Joseph Jr. (Rose), Leonard, Willie (Wanda) Ruffin; 2 aunts, Violet Alexander and Mary Ruffin; 2 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Ruffin and Mrs. Ruby Nell Matthews; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends Shirley Luckado-McReynolds, Mrs. Bessie Jackson and Mrs. Tommie Underwood. Mrs. Marion Helen Matthews was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis C. Matthews, Jr.; grandson, Antoine Matthews; parents, Joseph and Victoria Ruffin; and brothers, Aaron and Jesse Ruffin. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Keith J. Bigelow and the Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church family, and the many caring family members, friends, and neighbors that expressed their love for our mother while living and after her departure. A very special thanks to Dr. Hindi Ahmed and staff for their superior attention for our mothers care. Aunt Jimmie we are grateful and thankful for the time you spent helping and caring for our mother.
