Mrs. Marietta Todd Davis-Woodson

DAVIS-WOODSON, Mrs. Marietta D. Age 103, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Western Hills Living.Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery G-4413 Flushing Rd. Family and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mother Woodson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m., Friday with family present from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Marietta Todd Davis-Woodson was born on October 25th, 1912 in Providence, Kentucky to Coreane and Edward Todd. She always remarked that she was born the year that the Titanic sank. She touched the lives of so many people and leaves memories as well as her priceless legendary sayings and quotes. She would light up a room with her witty humor and unexpected greetings. As the family matriarch she leaves a tremendous legacy for all to continue to build upon. Mrs. Woodson was a long time member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she had been a member of the Esther Circle, Baptist Training Union, Sunday School, Friendship Club, and Birthday Club. Her hobbies were playing the piano, bowling, crocheting and tending to her flowers. She was initially a stay at home mother who went to work in later years at Ternstedt Automotive Plant. However, upon retirement she regularly attended the Stewart School/Brennan Center where she participated with the senior citizens group and was an avid competitor with the Senior Olympics; she was especially proud of her “arm wrestling” specialty competition. Cherishing her memory, Mrs. Woodson leaves a huge host of family members including: a daughter, Edith (Lenn) Bradley, Flint, MI; 2 daughters-in-law, Velmarie Davis of Riviera Beach, FL and Nita Jean Davis of Flint, MI; 9 grandchildren, Denice Davis Johnson, Flint, MI, Dr.'s, Raymond L. Davis/ Abdulrahman (Maha) Friendswood, TX, Lennetta (Craig) Coney, Flint, MI, Karen (Miranda) Davis, St. Louis, MO, Todd (Wendy) Bradley, Lansing, MI, Dana (James) Mitchell, Potomac, MD, Darwin Davis Jr., Stamford, CT., Marietta Phinesee, Flint, MI and Derek Davis, Riviera Beach, FL; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Hurmie Thorne of Albrightville, PA and Virginia (Sam) Williams of Flint, MI; brother, Rev. Paul A. (Jawana) Todd of Marshall, TX; step-mother, Pauline Todd, Flint, MI; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including special god-daughter, Marilyn Crawford, Martinsburg, WV. Mrs. Woodson was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, Abner P. Davis and Renzellus Woodson; 2 sons, Darwin and Raymond Davis; grandson, Ward Abner Davis; parents, Coreane and Edward Todd; 2 sisters, Coreane Jones and Julia Osborne; 5 brothers, Emerson, Jimmie, George, Eddie and Warren Todd. Special thanks to her devoted family physician Dr. Susan Smith and to Victoria Kelly and her dedicated staff at Western Hills Living.
