Mrs. Marie Cooksie

COOKSIE, Mrs. Marie - Age 91, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2014 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave. with memorial service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Host Pastor Latrelle Holmes, Sr, Pastor Anthony Watson officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the Church 10:00 a.m Saturday. Mrs. Cooksie will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 noon - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Mother Marie Penigar-Cooksie was born March 2, 1923 in Emerson, Arkansas, the daughter of Taylor Penigar and Ella McDuffie Doss-Allen. Marie accepted Christ at an early age and remained a passionate and devoted Christian Woman the remainder of her life. She attended Forest Grove Elementary, McMittress High School and Majored in Home Economics at Arkansas AM & N (Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College) Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Marie was united in Holy Matrimony to Leon Cooper and to this union, one daughter was born. She later married the late M.C. Cooksie and relocated to Flint, MI, where she held several jobs before getting hired at Hurley Medical Center. Marie worked in the Laundry Department first and then became an Operating Room Technician. She joined Canaan Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Newman was Pastor. Mr. and Mrs. Cooksie later moved to Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the Rev. Alfred L.C. Robbs. Deacon and Mother Cooksie spent their later years at Full Gospel Christian Church under the Auspices of Pastor James L. Wheeler. Mother Cooksie remained a faithful member of Full Gospel Christian Church until her passing. Our Lord and Savior called Mother Marie home on one of our most precious holidays, the day we celebrate his birth. He blessed her with eternal life and reunited her with loved ones who preceded her in death. Mother Marie Penigar- Cooksie leaves to cherish to memory: daughter, Billie Cooper Scott-Lindo of Flint; 4 grandsons, Morris (Joyce) Scott, Phillip M. Scott, Jabari (Keisha) James and Solomon (Margaret) Yearby; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; niece, Victorine George of Flint; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mother Cooksie was preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Cooksie; parents; brothers and sisters. The family would like to express a special thanks to Pastor Latrelle Holmes, Sr. and Greater Galilee Baptist Church , Grace Hospice, Iola Dunbar, Cheryldean McGirt, Brenna Carpenter, Chris Young, Sherita Swanigan and our extended family from the New McCree Theatre.
