Mrs. Mariah Russell-Shine

RUSSELL-SHINE, Mrs. Mariah - Age 92, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Heritage Manor. Family hour 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral commencing at 11:00 AM. Min Louis Robinson officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Russell-Shine will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon, and may be viewed 12:00PM-8:00 PM Monday. The soul of another saint, in the person of Sis. Mariah Russell Shine, is now in the presence of Almighty God, she went to be with Him on October 22, 2016. She began this journey on May 4, 1924 in Faunsdale, Alabama, the daughter of William D. and Elizabeth Russell. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age, after having been raised in a Christian home. She moved with her family to Birmingham, Alabama, before coming to Flint, Michigan in 1957. She continued her Christian journey by uniting with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late, Rev. Dr. Granville Smith. She made her membership count by serving with the Nurses Guild Ministry. Sis. Mariah was also a member of Marian Anderson Chapter No. 4 of the Order of Eastern Star and the Marshells. Her concern for young people lead her to become employed with the Flint Board of Education for 25 years and a part of the Title One Parent Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needle point, and spending time with her family. Sis. Mariah Russell Shine leaves to cherish sweet memories: son, William “Bill” Russell of Flint; 11 grandchildren, Lisa, Shawn, Dorman, Chanda, Sabrina, James, Darlene, Julia, LaJuanna, Jeremy, Janaé; daughter-in-law, Wilma Shine; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Sis. Bobbie Howard of Flint. Sis. Shine was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Tolbert-Tyler; 2 sons, Henry Shine, Jr., Cornelius Shine; parents, William D. and Elizabeth Russell; sister, Betty Lou Collins; brother, Edward L. Russell. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Heritage Manor, Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller Jr. and the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
