Mrs. Margaret Gladney

GLADNEY, Mrs. Margaret- Age 77, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Vernon Chapel AME Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Mickarl Thomas, Sr., officiating, Bishop L. Earl Stewart, Sr., Eulogist. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Gladney will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 4-8 p.m. Friday. Sister Margaret Ann Smith Gladney was born on September 8, 1935 in Pontiac, Michigan. She was the second daughter of Rev. & Mrs. Frank S. and Rosalie (Dooley) Smith, Sr. Sister Gladney graduated from Flint Central High School. Shortly thereafter she met and married Louis Grant Gladney, Sr., and to this union was born two sons, Louis Grant Gladney, Jr. and Shawn Pierre Gladney. Sister Gladney attended Flint Junior College (now known as the Mott Community College) as a student of the Nursing Program. She became employed with the Hurley Medical Center where she worked as a Surgeon’s Assistant before becoming disabled. Sister Gladney later took accounting courses at Mott Community College and was first well known for her ability to assist clients with tax preparation services while working for the F.S. Smith & Associates Company and later working independently. Sister Gladney enjoyed cooking, especially for family gatherings, playing cards, bowling and even skiing. Sister Gladney leaves to cherish sweet memories two sons: Louis Grant Gladney, Jr. and Shawn Pierre (Danielle) Gladney; her grandchildren, Ebony Bivens (Andre’, Sr.) Crawford of Davidson, NC; Kina L. Gladney of Mt. Pleasant, MI; Katrina L. Gladney of Dearborn Heights, MI; Marquel A. Williams and Kiosha Gladney, both of Flint and Soraya L. Dunlap of Florida; two great-grandchildren, Amir and Andre’ Crawford, II; three sisters, Janice E. Smith, and Annette R. Smith, both of Flint and Linda A. Smith of Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and special friend Louise Gurley. Sister Gladney was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Marvin, Frank Jr., and Julius; her sister Adrienne C. Stewart, and cousins Otis and Hamilton Smith.
