CONYERS-HOLMES, Ms. Mardese Therese - Age 51, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, G-4142 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Ms. Conyers-Holmes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Ms. Mardese Therese Conyers-Holmes was born February 15, 1957 in Flint, Michigan. She was a resident of Flint and a member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church. Mardese was a graduate of Southwestern High School “Class of 1975”, received her Associate Degree from Mott Community College, her Bachelor Degree of Arts from Spring Arbor College, and her latest educational achievement a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Michigan State University; which she completed with honors on May 4, 2007 and received her (LLMSW) License in Social Work from the State of Michigan. Mardese was an employee of the General Motors Corporation (GM) since 1979. She received a certificate for 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. Mardese worked at Buick City on the assembly line, she was accepted in the GM skilled-trades apprentice program and received her Journeyman certification in Air Condition and Refrigeration in 1990. In 1999, Mardese was then blessed to receive a position at the UAW-GM Center for Human Resources in Detroit, Michigan; where she was recently held an International Appointment of Special Assignment. Mardese was affiliated with numerous organizations including a loyal and active member of UAW Local 599; in which she served on various committees. She was a proud and dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated- Flint Alumnae Chapter. She was a member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church Mass Choir, NAACP, volunteered for years with the United Negro College Fund and was accepted as a member of Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society. Mardese also received an invitation to attend the Inauguration of past President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. She leaves to cherish her memory: loving and devoted daughter, Aireka Reeves; precious granddaughter, whom she called her “Love Bug” Miyana Jade Holden; special son-in-law, Jon-Robert Holden, all of Novi, MI; loving parents, Mr. & Mrs. Louis and Bernice (Sheftall) Conyers of Flint MI; sister, Desiree Conyers of Ann Arbor, MI; brother, Kenneth (Nikeeta) Conyers of Belleville, MI; sister-in-law, Monica Conyers of Flint MI; 2 nieces, Serrita (Nick) Jude of Flint, MI and Phyllis Conyers of Ypsilanti, MI; 5 aunts, Ethel L (Billy) Kearse, Maserine (Lee) Bolling, Louverda Gadson, Maldotha Conyers, Mary-Etta Thomas; one uncle, Woodrow Conyers; godson, Graylin Bridges; goddaughter, Kenyetta Brazwell (Drayke); a very special friend, Jesse McIntosh; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including; Ryan Reeves, Christopher Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Alvern and Theresa Lock (Tristian), The Reeves Family, The Holden Family and numerous others whom she held dear to her heart. Ms. Conyers-Holmes was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony Louis Conyers; nephew, Jo’Van B. Conyers; grandparents, William and Florence Conyers, Sam and Magdalene Sheftall; uncles, William Conyers, Sam Sheftall, Jr., Joseph Best and aunt, Lillie Mae Conyers. The family would like to thank the following, Pastor Marvin A. Jennings and the Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family, Bethel United Methodist Church, Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc., Ms. Carnetta Black and the McLaren Regional Medical Center, ICU staff.
