Ms. Marcia Blount

BLOUNT, Ms. Marcia - Age 54, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 12:00 PM Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 W. Bristol Rd., with funeral services commencing at 1:00 PM Pastor Emil Thomas officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 12:00 PM Saturday. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM Saturday until time of service. Marcia Angela Blount was born July 4, 1963 in Flint, Michigan and was granted her angel wings on August 4, 2017. She was the beloved daughter of James and Sybil Blount. Marcia attended the Flint Community Schools where she participated in cheerleading, graduating from Flint Central High School “Class of 1981.” She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was an active and dedicated member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roy I. Greer. Marcia was a member of the Choir, Usher Board and Youth Fellowship. She had a beautiful Alto voice often singing solos. Marcia, full of humor and big smiles was born a community activist with BIG Visions, and Agape love for people. Marcia always knew she was responsible, to make a difference in the lives of others. Although she served faithfully in organized church, her conviction compelled her to go, “where the hurting people are.” Marcia was an advocate, developer and implementer of outreach programs. Together with her family she implemented “Operation: Take Hope to Lippincott”, the area in which she grew up, mobilizing food pantries, youth events and neighborhood clean-ups. Her first community rally was supported by volunteers from seven Mid-Michigan Counties. Following her heart, she established the Non-Profit Organization, Together We Stand (TWS) and served 5 years, exclusively on the “Home Missions Fields” of Flint’s Southside. TWS brought a fresh approach and new perspective to problems of the people yet unaddressed. Marcia, a writer, lecturer, psalmist and poet-published a community newsletter for two years, which cast her positive vision of cohesive community. Marcia wrote curriculum for multi-generational women’s support group. She established a “Safe Center”, in a public housing complex with an exceptionally high crime rate, as well as a teen leadership program that guaranteed summer employment. In 2014 Marcia authored her fist book “Something I heard in the Wind.” Marcia was employed with the State of Michigan as well as Michigan School for the Deaf where she learned American Sign Language. She relocated to Birmingham, AL in 2013 and was employed by Jefferson County Commission where she made many friend and enjoyed a renewal in her life until her illness brought her back to Michigan. Marcia was passionate about anything she set her sights on. God first, her children, family and friends (she never met a stranger). She cherished her grandchildren, Ah’Quan and Loyalty. Marcia always had a smile on her face and loving open arms. Marcia Angela Blount leaves to cherish her memory: 4 children, Ronald III, Kaitlyn and Evan Wilson, all of Flint, Tyler Wilson of Lansing, MI; 2 grandchildren, Loyalty and Ah’Quan; mother, Sybil Blount; siblings, Tangita Thomas-Adams, both of Columbia, MD, Rev. Emil (Shanda) Thomas of Palo Alto, CA, James (Mae) Blount, Patricia Hilson, Brenda Welcome, Janice (Bobby) Sewell, Paulette (Richard) Wills, Sylvia Blount, all of Jacksonville, FL, Eugene (Tracy) Blount of Kentwood, MI, Dewayne Standard of Duluth, GA, Anthony Standard of Flint, Jim Blount of Ft. Wayne, IN, Thelma (Marvin) Fox of Marietta, GA, Timothy (Renita) Blount of Snellville, GA, Joseph Blount of Port Wentworth, GA, Brendan (Melissa) Blount of Rex, GA; special aunt, Etta Copedge of Marietta, GA; a host of other relatives including special cousin, Roshanda (Todd) Womack, and forever friends, Suzanne Oben, Chakahier (Ron) Oliver, and Sheryl (Wendell) Thompson; as well as previous husbands, Rev. Ronald Wilson Jr. and Mark Evans. Marcia was preceded in death by her father, James Blount Jr.; grandparents, Alice Sharpe-Blount and James Blount, Alvira and Richard Gordon; and sister, Linda Standard. The family would like to express special thanks to Suzanne Oben her full-time caregiver as well as the staff of McLaren Hospice.
