SKINNER, Ms. Maple L. - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Ms. Skinner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday with family present from 2-6 p.m. Ms. Maple Louise Skinner was born December 31, 1941 in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of Colonel and Eliza Lee. Maple was a graduate of Flint Central High School, “Class of 1959”. She later went on to the Academy Novart School of Design, where she received a certification of the art of Sewing. In 1976 she began working for General Motors, where she completed 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 651. Maple was a devoted member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 30 years, where she served as President of the Women’s Usher Board, a member of the Women’s Ministry and Prayer Ministry. She loved sewing, spending time with family and friends. Maple was loving, kind, and giving to all she encountered. She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 children, Hamad (Pamela) Skinner of Bronx, NY, Nicholas (Patricia Luna) Skinner of Paso Robles, CA and Donyale Skinner of Davison, MI; 4 grandchildren, Paige Skinner, Nia Nicole Skinner-Miller both of Davison, MI, Martiza Skinner and Jay Skinner both of Columbus, GA; 4 sisters, Eldoris (Kenneth) Simmons of Flint, Rachel Silk of Flint, Delores Vaughn of Mt. Morris, MI and Ida Johnson of Flint; 6 brothers, Clyde Lee, Sr. of Detroit, MI, Colonel (Betty) Lee II, William J. Lee, all of Flint, Joseph (Dorothy) Lee of Flushing, MI, Eugene (Cathis) Lee of Grand Blanc, MI and Anthony Lee of Flint; father of children, Jerry Skinner; sisters-in-law, Mary Lewis and Evelyn (John) Skinner; brother-in-law, Charles Skinner, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Ola Jones, Margene Burkett, Naomi Rushin, Juanita Smith, Roxie Diggs and “The Usher Buddies of Grace”. Ms. Skinner was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel and Eliza Lee, Sr.; niece, Oksana R. Vaughn; and nephew, Charles “Big Guy” Skinner; brothers-in-law, William Vaughn, Jr. and Wilbur Johnson.
