HOLDEN, Mother. Mamie - Age 96, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Samuel Berry III, Host Pastor, Pastor Alfred Harris Sr., Officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2023. Mrs. Holden will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 Friday, with family present from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM to receive friends. Mother Mamie Lee “Aunt Ray” Holden transitioned to receive her crown in glory on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 surrounded by family. Mother Holden was born July 23, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia. She surrendered her life to Christ at an early age of 12. Mamie moved to Wayne, Michigan where she met her future husband, William E. Holden on September 19, 1945. Mamie and William were married in Toledo, Ohio and from this union 7 children were born. There are 5 children currently living. Mamie’s family consists of a total of 5 generations, she was the Matriarch of the family. Mamie loved planning the family reunion and always attended. Mamie and William moved to Flint, Michigan where she obtained employment with McLaren-Flint for 23 years. She retired in 1978. Mamie was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Flint for over 60 years. She served on the Nurses Guild for 10 plus years, working on the Kitchen Committee for over 20 years, serving on the Missionary Board for 4 years and serving on the Usher Board for over 30 years. Mamie attended Sunday School faithfully every Sunday. Mother Holden was known in the neighborhood by feeling the needy and always helped out the bereavement in the community and church. She was well known for being the “Cake Lady” and she was known for her delicious mouth watering fried pies. Mamie was one who made her presence known with a sound as precious as a rare jewel just waiting to be found. Mother Holden was truly living a most blessed life. She loved reading the Bible and always quoting Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Mother Mamie “Aunt Ray” Holden leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 77 years, William E. Holden Sr.; 2 daughters, Annetta (John Carter) Cooper and Sylvia Holden, all of Flint; 3 sons, William (Carol) Holden Jr. of Swartz Creek, MI, Calvin Holden of Sterling Heights, MI and Michael Holden of Grand Blanc, MI; 10 grandchildren, Michele Cooper, Shiaretha Holden, Sherie Clark, Darrell Holden, all of Flint, CeAnna (Jabbar) Gragg of Savannah, GA, Monica Clark of Mt. Morris, MI, Mamie Seigle of Kennesaw, GA, Johnny Holden of Columbus, OH, Michael Holden II of Grand Blanc, MI and Raquel (Al) Findlay of South Bend, IN; 32 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews including special nephew, William Clark Sr.; 10 cousins including special cousins, Brenda (Clark) Tidwell of Clinton Twp., MI; brother-in-law, Alonzo (Gwen) Holden of Brinkley, AR; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Bessie Stewart (best friend), Rose Langley, Ola Allison, Edna Stone and Lena Armstrong. Mother Holden was preceded in death by her 2 children, Linda Holden and Melvin Clark; 4 grandchildren; parents, James and Mamie Clark; grandparents, sisters and brothers.
