Mrs. Mae Kathryn Tipton

TIPTON, Mrs. Mae Kathryn - Age 89, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Hurley - Flint. Family hour 11:00 AM Friday, August 7, 2026, at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 P.M Pastor Stephan Murphy, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church, 11:00 AN Friday. Mrs. Tipton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. Our beloved, Mae Kathryn Tipton (born May Katherine Adams), was the second of ten children born to Eugene, Sr. and Evelyn (Tate) Adams. She was born in Dyersburg, TN on July 25, 1936. Mae Kathryn married Daniel Tipton, Sr. on February 11, 1954, and moved to Flint, Michigan shortly thereafter. Mae Kathryn and her family joined Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a Senior Usher Board member for many years. She was a great cook and during the holidays, you would find her home filled with family. She had a big heart and over the years, at one time or another, she opened her home to one of her sisters or brothers. Mae Kathyrn played a big part in raising not only her children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling back home (Dyersburg) to visit her family, where a good time was always had. Mae Kathryn was very athletic. She played volleyball, softball and was an avid bowler. She was a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC), traveling all over the United States competing. She was awarded a 25-year plaque for her participation. Mae Kathryn was also a member of the Flint Women's Bowling Association (FWBA) and was inducted into the Flint Bowler's Hall of Fame in 2002. Mae Kathryn Tipton leaves to cherish her precious memory, children: Houston (Karen) Tipton, Daniel (Elaine) Tipton, Jr., Valerie Tipton, Cynthia Tipton, all of Flint, MI, Roderic (Debbie) Tipton of Alpena, MI and Stephanie Tipton of Flint, MI; grandchildren: Adam (Lisa) Kurtz, Cordell Tipton, Katina (Quinn) Turner, Danielle (Dulymus) McAllister, Houston (Kori) Tipton, Jr., Paige Evans, Deion Tipton, Sr., Amanda (David, Jr.) Lenear, Courtney (Malea) Tipton, Kelsey Tipton, India (Quay) Walker, Alonna Tipton and Aliyah Tipton; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings: Lennie Terrell of Henrico, VA, Eugene Adams, Jr. of Arlington, TN, Joe Adams of Dyersburg, TN, Judy Cooper and Janet Teasley, both of Nashville, TN, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mae Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Evelyn Adams, Sr., husband of 57 years, Daniel Tipton, Sr.; sisters, Addie Goins, Lula Marie Thomas, Shirley Alaheem and Laura Gary; and daughter-in-love, Gwendolyn Tipton. The family wishes to thank Pastor Stephen L. Murphy and the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, Rev. Dr. Carlos D. Williams, the staff of Davita Dialysis-Burton, the staff at Hurley Medical Center and Dr. R. Peddireddy.
