Mrs. Mable McNeely

McNEELY, Mrs. Mable – Age 90 passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr. officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Monday. Mrs. McNeely will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Mable McNeely was born April 3, 1923 in Greenville, Georgia, the daughter of Jimmy and Fannie Redwine. She moved to Flint, Michigan in the 1940’s. Mable was a member of Vernon Chapel AME Church. She graduated from Flint Community Schools in 1983 along with her granddaughter, Nina. Mable then studied to work as a Visiting Nurse and became employed with Genesys Health Systems until her retirement, along with her son, August 1, 2000. She enjoyed numerous fishing trips with her mom, aunt, son, cousins and friends. Although at one time, she earned a living making drapes, it was also one of her many hobbies including: crocheting, knitting, quilting and bowling. Mrs. McNeely also enjoyed gardening so much that until just a few years ago, she would plant flowers in her yard while sitting in a chair. She valued spending the holidays with family. It was very common for the family to gather at her home on any given day for a full spread for all to enjoy; each family member had a favorite dish that she prepared with love. Mrs. Mable McNeely will be missed by many and leaves to cherish: grandson, Capt. Darryl Patterson of Flint; granddaughters, Nina (Stinson) Samuels of Chantilly, VA (D.C. Metropolitan Area) and Michele Stinson of Flint; sister, Mary Alice Jones of Chicago, IL; devoted daughter-in-law, Magdalene (Patterson) Stinson of Flint; nephew, Jimmy Bray of Chicago, IL; numerous cousins including, Evelyn Strickland and Carrie Lue Roberts; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Leola Britt, Luella Wynn and many neighbors including special neighbors, Annie Perteet and O.C. Johnson. Her neighbors took care of her like a dear family member. They ran errands, took out the trash weekly, visited, prepared and delivered meals, noticed if things were out of order and contacted family to address any concerns. Priceless! Mrs. McNeely was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde McNeely; daughter, Joanne Nolen; son, James “Sonny” Stinson; mother, Fannie Grier; father, Jimmy Redwine; loving cousin and fishing buddy, James Knuckles.
