Mr. Luther W. Lee

LEE, Mr. Luther W.- Age 81, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 9 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 at Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church, 2120 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 10 a.m. Rev. Keith Bigelow, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 9 a.m. Monday. Mr. Lee will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. with family present from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Luther William Lee was born February 6, 1934 in Byhalia, Mississippi, the son of Charlie Luther and Flora Mae (Betts) Lee. Mr. Lee was a resident of Flint, MI. He was the oldest of 9 children. Mr. Lee served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was one of the first Black men to transmit the Morse code. He served as a Deacon/Trustee at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Mr. Lee retired from Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant, June 1, 1988 after 33 years of service. He loved playing golf and racquetball. Mr. Lee also enjoyed fishing, bowling and reading an occasional good book. He has always given thought to the future, while working 12 hours a day, he found time to enroll in classes at Mott Community College and finish a 2 year program. Mr. Luther William Lee leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 63 years, Cora B. Lee of Flint; 3 daughters, Patricia Ann (James) Williams, Flora Beatrice (Kenneth) Davis, all of Flint and Carolyn P. Lee of Ann Arbor, MI; son, Gene Luther Lee of Lansing, MI; 8 grandchildren, Regina L. Williams, Jamie P. Williams, both of Grand Blanc, MI, Jasmine S. Lee, Corbyn M.D. Lee of Ann Arbor, MI, Bradley Lee of St. Joseph, MI, Randon L. (Tanesha) Davis and Destin L. Davis of Flint and Toni P. Davis of New Hudson, MI; 6 great-grandchildren, Pria, Jazmin, JaCarry, Jonathan, Kaiden, and Erynn (expected in September); sisters, Emmie Lee, Dorothy (Alphonia) Alexander, Katheryn Lee, and Shirley Porter, all of Memphis, TN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and relatives survive. Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Luther and Flora Mae (Betts) Lee; 2 sisters, Freddie Lee Harris and Johnethel Lee Luster; 2 brothers, James Earl Lee and David Livingston Lee.
