OWENS, Mrs. Loys - Age 72, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM, Pastor Patrick Sanders officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Saturday. Mrs. Owens will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM-8:00 pm with family available to receive friends 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM on Friday. Mrs. Loys Marie Owens was born December 1, 1944 in Jacksonville, Texas, the daughter of Virie Lee Johnson and Rufus Williams. She moved to Flint, Michigan when she was 18 where she married Jimmie Owens. Marie loved reading books, Crossword Puzzles, puzzles, football and baseball. She also loved spending time with her family especially her great-grandkids, they were the light of her life. Mrs. Loys Marie Owens leave to cherish her memory: husband, Roscoe Sims; 2 daughters, Angela Owens and April Hightower, all of Flint; 2 sons, Darren Owens of Jacksonville, TX and Michael Owens Sr. of Flint; step-son, Melvin Sims; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; mother, Virie Lee Johnson; sister, Sheila Carter of Detroit; 3 brothers, Joe Williams, Anthony Williams, both of Flint and Edward Earl Nettles of Dallas, TX; 3 aunts, Faye Wilson of Houston, TX, Katherine McDaniel-Gray of Denver, CO and Bertha Williams of Flint; uncle, Rev. Charles Gray of Longview, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Beverly Bowden, Chris Bowden, David Bowden, Donna Brown, Delores Sims and WilleAnn Hart. Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her son, Dedric Owens; father, Rufus Williams; step-mother, Corine Williams; grandparents, Elizabeth and Robert Gray, Pink and Mattie Williams; sisters, Doris Overshine and Wanda Ann Reed; a host of other relatives. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint, New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church family, the Sims family and everyone who loved Mrs. Owens.
