JOHNSTON, JR. Mr. Loyed "Brother", "Professor" - Age 91, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 12, 2011 at Heritage Manor. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Eld. Alfonzo Howard officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Johnston will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Loyed Johnston Jr. was born February 17, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Loyed Johnston, Sr. and Anna L.V. (Jackson) Johnston. Loyed was second of four children born to this union. Loyed attended the Flint Community Schools, Clark Elementary, Whittier Junior High and Central High Schools. He became ill when he was in the 11th grade. Mr. Johnston joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at a very young age; he was very active in Sunday School, BYPU and other children programs. Loyed was very talented; he had a beautiful baritone voice and played the saxophone. He was studious and many of his friends and classmates nicknamed him “Professor.” Loyed had many friends, which have gone on to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Anna L.V. Howard; 6 nieces, Anna (Stancel) Rushing, Janet Summers, Nancy Watson, Sandra Fields, Constance Price, all of Flint, and Sue (Alfred) Bates, Sr., of El Sabrante, CA; 2 nephews, Freddie (Wanda) Howard, Jr., Lincoln (Donna) Ward all of Flint; uncle, Thomas (Ola Mae) Johnston of Webster, FL; a host of great-great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including the Jackson and Ward families of Flint and the Johnston family of Florida. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his parents, Loyed and Anna L.V. Johnston, Sr.; 2 sisters, Willie Belle Bell and Bettye Ward; niece, Lisha Ann Greene; nieces, Jameshia Price, Robin Kay and Joy Ann Howard; nephew, Freddie Leroy Howard III; and 2 brothers-in-law, Freddie Leroy Howard, Sr., and Lincoln Ward, Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to Heritage Manor, Hospice Care, Hurley Medical Center and Dr. Fleetwood.
