Mother LouVera Burns

BURNS, Mother LouVera - Age 87, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, June 11, 2018 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Bishop Urundi Knox, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Monday. Mrs. Burns will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday. Mrs. LouVera Burns was born on April 18, 1931 in Lexington, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Leslie and Sallie Robinson. LouVera and Henry Burns Jr. met in Maywood, Illinois, and married on August 8, 1950. She relocated to Flint, Michigan; where she resided for 68 years with her beloved husband, children and grandchildren. Mrs. LouVera Burns accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of the Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. She was the Devotion Chaplin of the Mother’s Board, Vice President of the Missionary Circle, sang in the Mass Choir, regularly attended Sunday School, and participated in multiple National Baptist Congress Conventions. Mother Burns loved the Lord and her church family with all her heart. Mother LouVera Burns was employed by General Motors Corporation, working at Ternstedt for 30 years, and retiring in 1985. Mother LouVera Burns was a Matriarch and Devoted Wife who loved helping and supporting the entire family. She loved to go shopping and was a very fashionable woman who loved to wear beautifully adorned hats. She was also known for her delicious baked goods, and enjoyed spending time at the Brennan Senior Center where she continued to be physically active by taking yoga classes. LouVera loved to talk on the telephone with her loving family and friends, and was known to impart her wisdom to all who sought her advice. She also enjoyed watching Detroit Pistons games and tennis matches. Mother LouVera Burns leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Henry Burns Jr.; 3 daughters, Dr. Avon Lorraine, Paula Marie, and Jacqueline Denise, all of Flint; 7 grandchildren, Mark Jeffrey (Netra) Epps II of Nashville, Tennessee, Ashley Marie Burns, Danielle Lorraine Epps, both of Flint, Cassandra Cobbins of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Willie Charles Cobbins III of Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, Australia, Aubrey Brown Sr. of Hazel Crest, Illinois and Martia (Joseph) Thornhill of Hazel Crest, Illinois; 3 great-grandchildren, Christian Staple of St. Louis, Missouri, Imani Woolfolk of Memphis, Tennessee, and Madison Riley Epps of Nashville, Tennessee; 2 sisters, Dorothy Courts and LaVern Burch; brother, Albert Lee (Bertha) Robinson, all of Maywood, Illinois; brother-in-law; a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and a loving church family. Mother Burns was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Eloise Cobbins; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Robinson; 2 sisters, Osie Redmond, and Rho Dhoris Johnson; 3 brothers, Jack Guinn, Leslie Robinson Jr., and Eugene Robinson.
