COLLINS, Mrs. Lottie LaFa'e - Age 83, passed away, Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Sugarbush Living Facility. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Alfonso Williams officiating, Interment, Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw Street. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025. Mrs. Collins will be viewed during Family hour only. Mrs. Lottie Lafa'e Collins began her life journey in this world August 13th, 1941 in Alexandria, Louisiana. The daughter of Mercedes Washington and Joseph Washington. Lottie graduated from Central High School and furthered her education graduating from University of Michigan- Flint. Lottie was a dedicated educator and community advocate, who made significant contributions to the city of Flint through employment and various roles downtown city hall. She worked for Buick known as General Motors today and made history of being the first black woman in the office. She was a valued and respected employee of Beecher School district. She taught all levels of education for the Beecher School District and was a dedicated teacher to every student she taught. Mrs. Collins was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and a “second mother" to many. She leaves behind her legacy that resonates like a strong, phenomenal, independent, and motivated woman. She lovingly leaves to cherish her memories with: 1 son: Rau-Phi'L (Rasool A. Ali) Rufus Collins Sr., of Flint Michigan; 6 grandchildren: Charmione Chyna Laru Collins, Kimiata Rauchele Collins, Dashon Antoni Dewayne Hardy, Rau-Phi'L Rufus Collins Jr., Rahmiyyah Lottie Julia Ali, and Yusuf Allen Ali, of Flint Michigan; 1 great grandchild: Avaiyah Danielle Hardy, of Flint Michigan; several nieces: Kendra R. Brown, Antoinette Nyree Coutee, Patrice (Donald) Haywood, Letitia (Xavier) Epps etc. all of Flint, Michigan; several nephews: Rodney Brown, Kevin Brown, William (Emma) Epps III, etc. of Flint, Michigan; Great Nieces: Kendrya Mercedes Hill, India Coutee, Donnell Scandrick etc. of Flint Michigan; Great nephews: Deyonis Hinton of Detroit, Michigan, David Perez, Daniel Perez of Flint, Michigan etc. and a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Rufus Irvin Collins, parents, Joseph and Mercedes Washington, siblings Beverly Joann Epps, Joseph Washington Jr., Apostle Jacqueline M. Washington Brown, and Donald R Washington, Sr., nephew, Allen Deonco Brown and niece La Shaun Nicole Brown Perez. I would like to give a special thanks to her niece Kendrya Mercedes Hill and her forever friend March'ae Alexander Nelson for providing excellent and supportive care to Mrs. Lottie Lafa'e Collins during great moments leading to transitioning!
