DONALD, Mr. Lonie Hurst Sr. - Age 75, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 Stewart Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mr. Donald will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Tuesday, with family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Lonie H. Donald, Sr. was affectionately known as “Paw Paw” and “Poppie” to his grandchildren. He was born on June 14, 1941 in Scooba, Mississippi, the son of Ms. Cornelius Woods. Lonie moved to Flint, Michigan at a young age. In 1963, Lonie married the love of his life, his wife, the former Helen Bankston to whom he was married for over 54 years. Lonie retired from Chevrolet Metal Fabricating, a division of General Motors in 1994 and was a member of UAW Local 659. He resided in the Beecher Community, where he was a beloved and respected friend and neighbor. Lonie was committed to his family; he especially enjoyed his annual Myrtle Beach vacation, spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids, playing cards and “just chillin.” Mr. Lonie H. Morris, MI; daughters, Heidi (Aaron) Edwards of Warren, MI; Holly (Lamar) Moreland of Grosse Pointe, MI and Heather (Larry) Knox of Bloomfield Hills, MI; son, Lonie Jr. “Chip” (Kandra) Donald of Idlewild, MI; 10 grandchildren, Cyra (Devaughn) Nelams of Detroit, MI; Lonie III “Blue” Donald III of Las Vegas, NV, Halle “Punkin” Williams of Grand Rapids, MI, Derrick “Dee-Dee” Whitehead of Ypsilanti, MI, La’Kie Donald, Lance Donald of Idlewild, MI, Dexter “DJ” Moreland, Hailey Moreland, Hunter Moreland of Grosse Pointe, MI and Evan Knox of Bloomfield Hills, MI; great-granddaughter, Cyler Nelams; sister, Delois Williams of Flint; father-in-law, Leroy Bankston; sister-in-law, Barbra (Lester) Carson; brothers-in-law, Billie (Penrose) Bankston, Ralph Bankston, Noel “Bud” (Edwina) Bankston and George Strong; a host of nieces and nephews, with special thanks to Sherry Felton, Clark Felton and Derrick Mosley Mr. Donald, was preceded in death by his mother, Cornelius Woods; sister, Helen Strong; brothers, John Sims and T.
