Lionel Hopkins

HOPKINS, Mr. Lionel - Age 42, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 3020 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Dr. A.J. Pointer officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Tuesday. Mr. Hopkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Mr. Lionel "Baby Boy" Hopkins was born on June 5, 1963 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Rev. J.S. and Lureatha (Outland) Hopkins. Lionel "Baby Boy" was a lifelong native of Michigan. He became a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where he sang in the Youth and Junior Choirs. Lionel attended Northwestern High School and received his GED in 1988. He relocated to Inkster, MI in 2000. Lionel enjoyed watching and playing all types of sports. He loved being with family and friends, laughing, talking and having a good time. "Baby Boy" always had a smile on his face. Mr. Lionel "Baby Boy" Hopkins leaves to cherish his memory: father, Dr. J.S. Hopkins of Flint; fiancÚe, Betty Goodman of Inkster, MI; 3 children, Shanique Hopkins of Flint, Emerald and Diamond Hopkins of Inkster, MI; 3 sisters, Etta (George) Haywood, Arlinda and Hatty Hopkins; brother, Dennis Lee Hopkins, all of Flint; 6 nieces, Shanita Connor and Sherice Harris, both of Indianapolis, IN, Dedra Hopkins of Detroit, MI, Ivory Edwards, Sharitia and Sherria Harris, all of Flint; 7 nephews, Derrick (Casey) Harris of Peoria, IL, Lawan (Michelle), Harry (Serena) Harris and Daniel Hopkins, all of Flint, Damon (Octavia), Naylo and Deondra Hopkins, all of Pontiac, MI; 8 aunts, Christella Griffin and Annie Callum of Flint, Linnie Thomas of Flora, MS, I.V. Richardson, Ida Burse, Louise Thompson, Mary Smith and Katherine Jones; 4 uncles, E.J. and Joe C. Outland, all of Salina, KS, B.P. Outland and Archie Lee Moore, both of Flint; a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. and Mrs. James Coles, Ernie Smith, Walter Simmons and Donovan. Mr. Lionel "Baby Boy" Hopkins was preceded in death by his mother, Lureatha Hopkins; sister, Essie Hopkins; brother, John Wesley Hopkins and grandparents. The family would like to express special thanks to the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church family for their prayers, the many doctors and nurses at Henry Ford and Hurley hospitals.
