Ms. Linda Jean Luster

LUSTER, Ms. Linda Jean - Age 65, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at The Landings of Genesee Valley. Family hour 11:30 AM Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 115 Welch Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM. Pastor Floyd Fuller, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:30 AM Saturday. Ms. Luster will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 - 6:00 PM Friday with family present 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Linda Jean Luster was born February 1, 1958, in Tarry, Arkansas. The daughter of Norma Jean Luster-Henry and Henry Toles Jr. She moved to Flint, MI and became a resident of Genesee County in 1965. Linda was a graduate of Flint Central High School class of 1977. After high school, she attended Mott Community College where she received her associate degree in criminal justice. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church for many years where she served on the usher board, pastor’s aid committee and volunteered in the kitchen when needed. Linda worked at Luster’s Grocery on Avenue A, a family-owned business, for several years. She babysat her cousins and great nephew for many years. Linda was very passionate about planning and dictating family reunions. Linda also worked for Ellis Parking downtown for a few years before she was hired at the Genesee County Sheriff Department on July 10, 1987. She served as a deputy for 19 years before retiring in 2006. Linda loved to take lots of photos of family and friends at events, but never wanted to be in front of the camera. She had a large collection of photo albums that she was very protective of. Everyone that knew her knew that she didn’t play about her pictures. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her fur babies who were the joy of her life. During her lifetime, Linda traveled to Spain, Sweden, Hawaii, and went on several cruises. She also loved to collect albums, CDs, DVDs, and Waterford crystal. She loved to cook and try new recipes. Her specialties were cheesecake and mac & cheese. Linda also loved attending concerts. Linda was known for her kindness towards others. Linda never met a stranger. Linda leaves to cherish in her memory: mother, Norma Luster-Henry of Flint, MI; sisters, Diane Luster- Johnson of Flint, MI; Kathy Toles-Miller of Detroit, MI; brothers, Donzell Toles of West Covina, CA; Gerry James of Chicago, IL; stepbrother, Steven (Canda) Henry of Amarillo, TX; nieces, Ebony (Marvin) Dixon; Samantha Henry of Amarillo, TX; nephew, Richard Parker Jr.; great nieces, Re’Mya Parker of Houston, TX; Heaven Copeland; Miani Dixon; great nephew, Camren Claybrook; her fur baby, Simon; several aunts and uncles, a host of cousins and friends including special friends; Felicia Cobbin; Lois Williams; Anita Aikens; Melvin Scott; special cousins Cheryl Luster -Wilson and Valerie Luster-Houston. Linda is preceded in death by her father, Henry Toles Jr.; stepfather, Marvin Henry; grandfathers, Legolis Luster; Henry Toles Sr.; grandmothers, Birdester Hollaway; Caroline Toles; great grandmother, Jeanette Luster; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her fur baby Sam.
