PHIPPS, Mr. LaVentez Sharmun - age 21, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Morris A. Collins officiating. Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, 2020 E. Hill Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Phipps will lie in state in the Chapel, and may be viewed from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. LaVentez Sharmun Phipps “Ducie” was born April 29, 1991 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Ms. Bridget Phipps and Mr. Rollie James “Gene/Geno” “Pops” Don Cooper. “Ducie” lived in Beecher where he attended Beecher Community Schools. He accepted Christ at a young age joining United Missionary Baptist Church. “Ducie” was an entertainer/promoter and a people person. He enjoyed rapping, having fun and spending time with his son, family and friends. “Ducie was interested in music and fashion, so he stayed with the latest trends. He was very down to earth and would do anything for anybody. “Ducie” kept a smile on his face and he always wanted you to let him get $2.00, if you didn’t have that then he’ll take 5. He touched hearts everywhere, showing and receiving love from everyone. “Ducie” will be truly and deeply missed by everyone everywhere. Mr. LaVentez S. Phipps leaves to cherish his memory: son, Latavion Phipps; parents, Bridget Phipps and Rollie Nelson “Pops” Don Cooper; grandmother, Daisy (Simon) Isom of Mt. Morris, MI; 6 sisters, Sabrina and Michele Louis, Donyetta, Unique, Monsheea and Neazhia Phipps, all of Mt. Morris, MI; 7 brothers, Ricky, Micheal (Artisha) Nelson, Ladonest, D’Margio, Arjalun, Laverion and Lavantia Cooper, all of Mt. Morris, MI; 24 nieces and nephews, a host of great-nieces and nephews; 10 aunts, Artisha (Micheal) Nelson, Debra, Falicia, Effie, Catherine and Clarisa McKinney, all of Flint, Annie Hodo and Lola Marshall, both of Grand Blanc, Nettie (James) McGlothin, Monica Butler and Adrena (William); 7 uncles, James (Kimberly) Phipps of Flint, Charles Nelson of Denver, CO, Olin Nelson of Warren, OH, Herman (Falicia) Richardson of Flint, James, Elbert and Ernest Butler of Mt. Morris, MI; special cousins, Debresha Phipps of Flint Mond, Marcus, Tone, Shayla and D; god-mother, Ms. Rita Dorsey; god-father, Mr. Bates; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, “E”, Shakela, O Babe, City and Unc, Tae, D Nick, Marco, April, Bo, Don and Roy, Tim, Neal, Angela, Meechie, KJ, “D”, Debo, James, Japo and his son’s mother, Alexia. Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mrs. Marjo (Rosevelt) Marks; and 2 uncles, Willie Phipps and Rollie Nelson. The family would like to express special thanks to Mt. Morris Police Department, Hurley Medical Center, the Wolcott family and everyone who came to our side in our time of need and sorrow.
