Mr. Leroy Vines

VINES, Mr. Leroy - age 57, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Hurley Medical Center. Family Hour 10 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at New Zion Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St., funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jacob Hawkins Jr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Vines will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Leroy “Butchie” Edward Vines was born February 26, 1957 in Flint, MI. The son of Jimmie Lee and Ruthie Vines. He was educated in the Flint Public School system and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1975”. Upon graduation, Mr. Vines served in the U. S. Marine Corp. A hard working man, after being honorably discharged from the Marine Corp, Leroy spent 28 years with GM Truck and Bus Corporation-Flint, until he retired. He was a valued member of Bethel AME Church. Mr. Vines was the Choir Director, as well as holding a position on the Trustee Board. His favorite hobbies were walking in the mall every morning with his fellow ‘mall walkers’, fishing, and playing Chess at the Hasselbring Community Center. He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife, Ceresa Vines; daughters, Leronda and Brittany Vines of Flint, MI, Latisha (Desmond) Buchanon of CA; sons, Aaron and Santonio Snead of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Santez, Caden, Calan, Ashley, I’yana, Jahlia, Romonica; sisters, Allene Hawkins, Irene Bray-Johnson and Debra (Tony) Ryan all of Flint, MI, Edna Groce and Anne Elliot both of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Charlie (Silencia) Vines and Jerry Vines of Flint, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Maurice Brooks and Derrick “Wolf” Tyler, Courtland Mall walkers, Hasselbring Community Center and the Rosedale Ave. family. Mr. Vines was preceded in death by son Brock Vines; parents, Jimmie and Ruthie Vines, brothers James and Jackie, and mother-in-law Delores Snead. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hurley 5th floor ICU, Dr. Khan, and especially the New Zion Church family.
