Mr. Leroy Stevenson

STEVENSON, Mr. Leroy - Age 69, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at McLaren Hospital-Pontiac, MI. Family hour 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie St. with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 11 a.m. Friday. Mr. Stevenson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Leroy Stevenson was born October 19, 1944, in Roaring Springs, Pennsylvania to the late Dorothy Watkins Stevenson and Roy Stevenson. He was raised in Altoona, PA. Leroy moved to Flint, MI, at the age of 19. He was joined in marriage to Teresa Trice on November 24, 1973. Together, they had three children. Leroy worked for General Motors as a Skilled Tradesman retiring after 41 years and was a member of UAW Local #599. Leroy made many friends at General Motors and stayed in touch with them by walking at Genesee Valley Mall and going to breakfast with them after his retirement. Leroy was a devoted husband of 40 years, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Leroy enjoyed going to the casino, traveling, and dining out with Teresa. Leroy enjoyed being a handy man as well as redecorating and remodeling his house often. He lived life full of laughter, enjoyed singing (especially taping and listening to himself every Saturday), and listening to doo wop music. Leroy leaves to cherish many special memories: his wife, Teresa Stevenson; 3 daughters, Felissa Stevenson (Rick) of Flint, MI, Monique (Lynden) Avery of Saginaw, MI, Michele Stevenson of Charlotte, NC; 2 sons, Leroy (Lisa) Stevenson, Jr. of Buena Park, CA, and Shawn (Melba) Stevenson of Mt. Union, PA; 16 grandchildren, Kevin, Kyra, Demetrie, Selecia, Jalana, Robert, Jamar, Rickey Jr., Marcell, Mylisa, Heaven Adore, Kameron, Jamilla, Leighla, Jaleel, and Lucien; and 3 great-grandchildren Brazil, Germany, and Ella. He also leaves to cherish his memory 4 sisters, Thelma Marks of Harrisburg, PA, Ida Reigel of Charlotte, NC, Pearl (James) Baugh of Redlands, CA, and Betty Harris of Tacoma, WA; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, George McKenzie, Halbert Kellum, and John Perkins. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Codoshia Stevenson, Ethel Holmes, Eugene Stevenson, Paul Helsel, Roy Stevenson, Jr. and Anna Mae Cooksey; granddaughter, Ella Louise Stevenson; and special friend, Sylvester “Web” Weatherly, Sr.
