BRIGGS, Mr. Leroy, Sr. - Age 70, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 12noon Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Rising Star Baptist Church, 502 W. Flint Park Blvd with funeral service commencing immediately at 1pm. Pastor Chester Payton, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 12noon Tuesday. Mr. Leroy Briggs, Sr. will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from after 12noon Monday. Mr. Leroy Briggs, Sr. was born October 13, 1934 in Moscow, Tennessee, son of the late Mr. Will and Mrs. Ida Bell Briggs. Mr. Briggs was a resident of Flint, MI. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at a very young age at Concord Baptist Church in Slayden, Mississippi. Leroy attended Reese School in Moscow, TN. Leroy united in holy matrimony to the late Darthy Lee on December 9, 1955. Mr. Briggs was employed at First Presbyterian Church for 19 ¢ years in Flint, MI. Leroy loved fishing, hunting and playing cards. Leroy loved being around his family. He was a very kind outgoing person who strived to be the best in whatever he was doing. Leroy was a man who knew, feared and loved the LORD. Mr. Briggs leaves to cherish his memory, 3 daughters, Jewel (Howard) Johnson, Doris (Robert) Qualls and Blanche (Elliott) Milligan, 2 sons, Kirk (Tia Harris) Briggs of all Flint MI. and Hersey Ross of Phoenix, AZ; Cynthia Briggs; 9 granddaughters, Angelica, Turcoy, Shawntele, Kirklynn, Tarhonda, Tanisha, April and Laporscha all of Flint, MI, Roschele of Brandon, MS; 10 grandsons, Caleb, Abdul, Bobby, Jerry, Rashiem, Little Rob, Jay-Jay, Mo-Mo and Justin of San Diego, CA and Keyla; great grandchildren Dominique, Desmond, Jaquette, Aleeaa, Shakelya, Clarance, Anthony, Teka, Khadijah, Deandre, Daniel, Shayla, Aashia, Tameia; 3 sisters, Mollie Johnson of Flint, MI, Susie Turner of Memphis, TN, Ida Margaret (Willie) Patterson of Ashland, MS; 2 brothers, James (Lizzie Mae) Briggs of Slayden, MS and Robert Briggs of San Diego, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; 2 sisters-in-law, Arrie Purvis of Brandon, MS. and Anna West of Jackson, MS; brother-in-law, Clarence Lockette of Brandon, MS; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Briggs; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends; Pastor Chester Payton and god-granddaughters, LaShawn Johnson and Bridgette Boyd-Joy. Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by wife, Darthy Briggs; son, Leroy Brggs, Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will and Ida Bell Briggs; 2 grandsons, Marvin Briggs and Kirk Briggs Jr.; 2 sisters, Ruth Wilson and Martha Crawford; 5 brothers, John Wesley, David, Willie, Lemroy Briggs, and Thurman Briggs-Roberts. The family would like to express special thanks to Barb (his home care nurse), Dr. Raffee, Dr. Tabbaa, Dr. S. Sayyid, Dr. Hashaish, Heartland Home Care, Swartz Ambulance, Genesee Valley Dialysis doctors & nurses of, Hurley Medical Center along with the ER, TU and ICU Department; nurse, Laura of TU Department, Select Hospice, Pastor Chester Payton, along with Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church family and Pastor Fred White and New Heaven Baptist church family.
