CAMPBELL, Mrs. Leora - Age 77, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy, Mt. Morris, Mi. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Campbell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday. MRS. LEORA MAE (KILGORE) CAMPBELL, age 77 closed her eyes & fell into God’s Arms joining him in heaven on Monday, April 1, 2024. Mrs. Campbell was born on August 19, 1946, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI. She was the eldest daughter of Cloyd and Clara A. Kilgore Sr. Mrs. Campbell was a life-long resident of Flint, MI., the city which was a true passion of hers. She was truly a devoted, loving and compassionate wife of 54 years to Nathaniel M. Campbell Sr. (deceased). To all else, she was an Incredible & Extraordinary Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Godmother, Aunt, Friend, Teacher and Businesswoman. But Above All Else, Leora was a True & Faithful Servant for the Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Mrs. Leora Campbell began her life with Christ at an early age. Upon joining Caanan Missionary Baptist Church. She was baptized under the late Rev. A. Robbs. While at Caanan, she was a member of many auxiliaries including the Youth & Adult Usher Boards, and Choirs: Youth, Young Adult Choir and the C.I.C.s (Caanan Inspirational Choir). During this time, she also became a valued member of the city-wide choir called The Highlight Gospel Chorus. She had the unique opportunity to minister in song on a city-, state- and nation-wide levels. Continuing her journey with the Lord, she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with her family. She became a faithful & active member. Leora was part of the Nurses Guild & Kitchen Committees. She also served as Youth Director for several years. The final years in God’s Ministry were carried out at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Campbell believed in Education for herself. As a young girl she attended Flint Public Schools – Parkland, Dewey, Emerson and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1964. From there she obtained her Associate Degree from Charles S. Mott Community College. She sealed her educational pursuit in 2002 when she graduated with the honors, Magna Cum Laude, from Northwood University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. In business, she received an SBDC (Small Business Development Center) Certification from Grand Valley State University and a Small Business Administration Certification from Wayne State University. She was an SBDC Certified Counselor and a Certified Housing Counselor through HUD and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. In 1962, Leora met the love of her life Nathaniel Sr. Upon meeting the pair dated for three years, culminating in Engagement. The two entered life as One on August 21, 1965. For 54 years they weathered any happiness & storms that came their way. Their love transcended death. She loved and believed in the City of Flint. As such, she held various positions at: Flint Chamber of Commerce; Flint Area Enterprise Corporation; Community Capital Development Corporation (CCDC); Community Foundation of Greater Flint; Flint NIPP (Neighborhood Impact Program & Preservation) and several other places. She finally retired in 2022 ending at Kettering University. She also served on the many boards and committees within the Community (i.e. YWCA, Shelter of Flint - 4 yrs. and the City of Flint Planning Commission, Third Ward for 33 years up until her death). Mrs. Campbell leaves to cherish Children: Nathaniel (Renee) Campbell Jr., daughter, Angela Campbell and Special Son: Anthony (Ericka) Kilgore all of Flint, MI. Grand Children: Sonni (DeWayne) Slappy Sr. of Harrison Township, MI., and Nathaniel M. Campbell III of Flint, MI., Brother: Cloyd Kilgore Jr. of Seattle, WA. Special Cousins: George Johnson of Flint, MI. & Denetta Waters of University Park, Florida. Nephew: Lloyd (Heather) Kilgore Jr. of Lancaster, SC. Nieces: Precious Brown of Flint, MI., Nyquila Kilgore of Shreveport, LA. and Natasha (Wayne) Seymore Sr. of Bossier, LA., a Host of Great-Nephew, Nieces, Cousins and Family. God-Daughters: Monica Blackwell of Flint, MI., Kimberly (Henry) Hall of Troy, MI., Tynesha Cross of Atlanta, GA., Krystal Johnson of Flushing, MI. Lifelong Friends: Mary (Marion) Hoey, Jackie (Tommy) Blair, Linda Itson, Karlene Wells, Mae Vern (Benny) Spence, Jean Durrett, Ida Johnson, Jerome Rutland, Shirlena Pea, Sweetie Vickers. Special thanks to extended families: Blackwell, Blair, Brazle, Brown, Campbell, Durrett, Hall, Hoey, Itson, Johnson, Jones, Massey, Rutland, Stinnett, Tucker, Vickers and Wells. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by: Husband, Nathaniel M. Campbell Sr; Parents: Cloyd & Clara A. Kilgore Sr., Brother: Lloyd Kilgore Sr.; Sister: Linda Kilgore; Grandparents: George and Mae Etta Dunn, Lonnie and Leora Kilgore; 7 Aunts & Uncles; In-laws: Aaron Davis, Maureen Campbell, John “Frank” Campbell and Robert “Hump” Campbell.
