Mr. Leonard Leon Burkett

BURKETT, Mr. Leonard Leon - Age 82, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Evergreen Baptist Church, 106 E. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Burkett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral. Public viewing will be during family hour only. Mr. Leonard Leon Burkett was born June 27, 1942 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Lucille and John Burkett. Leonard went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2024. He was employed by General Motors Corporation for 31 years before retirement. Leonard was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed cleaning his home and keeping things in order. Leonard also loved, music, especially Jazz, and dressing nicely. He would also go around to other family member’s homes to make sure they also kept their homes clean and in order and help if needed. Leonard also loved his chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, along with biscuits and apple pie. He loved to get in his car to travel. He was a pleasant and funny man that loved his family and friends. Leonard was a faithful member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and helped around the church. He was a member of a group called Alphonso & the Lavelle’s, they signed with Motown in the 1960’s, the members were, Alphonso Hamilton, Eddie Garland, Jerome Updike, Landers Pruitt and Leonard Burkett. Two of their song were “Don’t Tell Them We Broke Up” and “As Time Goes On.” Mr. Leonard Leon Burkett leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Vera Jean Burkett; 2 sons, Raymond and Anthony Burkett of Lansing, M; 3 daughters, Leonetta Burkett, Pamela Younger and Yolanda Thomas, all of Flint; step-children, Arthur (Melody) McGee of Flint, and Tammy (Eric) Scott of Southfield, MI;10 grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Veronica (Byran) Pitts of Flint, Stephanie (Brent) Carpenter, Josiah, Scarlett, Gwendolyn, all of Auburn Hills, MI, Brijetta (Harmony) Smith of Flint and Jaylen Scott of Southfield, MI; 10 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friend, Eddie Garland. Mr. Burkett was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and John Burkett; Marcellus Burkett, Barbara Clark, Modie Ann Lewis, Pearl Roriex and James (Mary) Dudley; special friends, Lawrence Moss and Charles Croom. The family would like to express special thanks to all the family and friends that showed their love during this time.
