Leon Stubbs

STUBBS, Mr. Leon III - Age 58, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m., Pastor Chester Payton officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Stubbs will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Leon Stubbs III was born May 27, 1951 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Delaine Lewis and Leon Stubbs, Jr. Leon attended Flint Public School and was a graduated of Mighty Flint Northern High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was decorated with a National Defense Service Medal and Marksman. Leon was employed with Hurley Medical Center for 15 years. He was a skillful chef, whom enjoyed barbecuing and going fishing. Mr. Leon Stubbs III leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Jimmie Delores Stubbs of Flint; daughter, Tiwona Stubbs-Austin of Columbus, OH; stepson, Emara Burns; granddaughter, Ciara Talley of Columbus, OH; 5 sisters, Deborah (Clayton) Brooks, Vernita Johnson, Marilyn Taylor, Kathy Miller and Meon Stubbs, all of Flint; 4 brothers, Michael Rodney Lewis, Dale Miller, Andre and Sherrod Miller, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; 3 aunts, Madge R. Holiday, Louvenia Lowe and Ella Lewis; 2 uncles, Leroy Lewis and Daniel “Danny” (Sarah) Lewis; mother-in-law, Estella Burns; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nash of Midland, Lenois (Gene) Crosby of St. Louis, MO and Brenda Burns of Flint; 3 brothers-in-law, John, Soloman and David Burns; many other relatives and friends including special cousin, Peccola Rhodes; special friends, Sam, Jimmie and Carolyn Motley. Mr. Stubbs was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Leon (Gladys) Stubbs; mother, Delaine Lewis Johnson-Bogan; grandmother, Anna Mae Parish; sister, Veronica Miller; aunts, Dorothy Stubbs, Margaret Perkins, Laureeta Relerford and Marrilla Bonner; uncles, Mitchell and Robert Lewis.
