Mr. Leon Standard Sr.

STANDARD, Mr. Leon, Sr. - Age 85, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment, Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home 10 :00 AM Tuesday. Mr. Standard will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Monday. Leon “Road Hustler” Standard, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home on March 29, 2023. Leon was born September 20, 1937, in Frenchman’s Bayou, Arkansas, he was the son of Myrtle Standard. He moved to Flint, Michigan in the early 80’s worked for General Motors and retired after over 25 years of service. Leon enjoyed driving since an early age. He loved to tell stories of driving through the mountains in his 18-Wheeler. Leon also enjoyed going to the casino, out to eat with his sons and watching his favorite show Walker Texas Ranger. He loved family gatherings, holidays, western movies, and road trips with The United Van Club Association which whom he was an original member. Leon also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching them play in the yard and taking rides in Leon Jr’s race car. Road hustler will truly be missed. Leon “Road Hustler” Standard leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Mattie Standard; sons, Leon (Denise) Standard Jr., all of Grand Rapids, MI, Trenell Carter of Flint, Shuntreal Harris of Flint; Michael Coleman, Robert Coleman, Anthony Standard, all of Flint and Dewayne Standard of Lithonia, GA.; brother, William Newson of Flint; sister, Carine Anderson of Blytheville AR.; grandchildren, Sara Standard of Fenton, MI Erica and Latoya Standard, both of Flint, CoLeon Standard, Abria Dowell, Shania James, Bentley Nead, Skylar James and Carter Standard, all of Grand Rapids, MI; great-grandchildren, Tia O’neal and Alexis Walker, both of Fenton, MI; along with a host of other relatives and friends including special family friend, Rosalyn Gardner of Flint. Leon was preceded in death his former wives, Thelma Standard (Blount), and Delma Standard (Carter); daughter, Linda Standard; mother, Myrtle McKnuckle (Standard); step-father, Fred Newson Sr.; sisters, Rosie Lang, Delois Louden, Annie Smith and Viola Rauls; brothers, Fred Newson Jr., Issac Newson and Charles Newson.
