WALLACE, Mother Leola - Age 98, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Regency of Chene, Detroit, MI. Family Hour 10:30 AM Friday, March 18, 2022 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ezra Tillman, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:30 AM Friday. Mother Wallace will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mother Leola Wallace was born on February 22, 1924 in Charleston, Mississippi, the daughter of AL and Vinnie (Bullock) Griffin. She married Pleas Wallace Jr. in Flint, Michigan in 1946. Mother Wallace confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Little Hubbard Baptist Church in Charleston, MS. Leola was a resident of Flint, Michigan since 1946. She was a member of First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church where she was installed and served on the Kitchen Committee and the Mother’s Board under the leadership of Rev. F.O. Hockenhull. Mother Wallace enjoyed attending church service and cooking (she tried to feed EVERYBODY!). She was known for her pound cake, peach cobbler, caramel cake and homemade ice cream! She also enjoyed helping to raise her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Mother Wallace was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Mother Leola Wallace leaves to cherish her memory: 3 children, 2 daughters, Teretha Wallace and Cheryl (Michael) Jordan, all of Flint; son, Curtis (Barbara) Wallace of Grand Blanc, MI; god-son, Richard (Bernadette) Wilbourn of Detroit, MI; 2 step-sons, Joe Nathan (Annie) Brownlee of Indianola, MS and Kevin Tracy Brown McGee of Little Rock, AR; 5 grandchildren, Courtney (Iman) Truly of Grand Rapids, MI, Curtis (TaShira) Wallace of Grand Blanc, MI, Faith (DeShawn) Dawson of Flint, Marcus Wallace and Jessica (Marius) Banks, all of Grand Rapids, MI; 14 great-grandchildren; her first great-great-grandchild due in May of 2022; sister, Floree Griffin of Charleston, MS; sisters-in-law, Goletha Micou of Detroit, MI and Clara Brezzell of Flint Twp., MI; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends. Mother Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, Pleas Wallace Jr.; 1 great-grandson; parents, AL and Vinnie (Bullock) Griffin; 3 sisters; and 3 brothers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jawahar L. Tummala MD, the staffs of McLaren-Flint and Regency of Grand Blanc, MI, Pastor Ezra L. Tillman Jr. and the First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church family, and special friend, Ms. Ethel Belt and the Davis family.
