Mrs. Leola Bridges

BRIDGES, Mrs. Leola - Age 75, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2013 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12 noon. Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Bridges will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Leola Bridges born September 15, 1937 in Tylertown, Mississippi, the daughter of Lester and Ardella Love. Leola attended Hope Vocational High School in Jaycees, Mississippi. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at West Sunny Hill Baptist Church in Tylertown, Mississippi. Leola relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1957. She became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was a loyal and devoted member serving on the Missionary Board, Choir #2, and Mother’s Board. Leola also expressed a love for cooking at an early age. Upon her relocation she was employed by the Flint School System Lunch Program, Genesee County Juvenile Detention Cafeteria Service and ending with the Food Service Providers (for the café) at various General Motors Plants. She leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Jewell Bridges, Susan (Mack) Finley and Sherisa Bridges, all of Flint, Glen (Sonya) Bridges of Dallas, TX and James (Luann) Bridges of Fort Wayne, IN; 10 grandchildren, Tara Whiteside of Las Vegas, NV, Christine, Simone, Paris Bridges, all of Dallas, TX, Ty’Arre and Cartier Younger of Flint, Jamone (Danielle), JaRon and JaDon Bridges, Julion (Raymond) Fluker of the greater Detroit Metro area; 4 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, Elton (Gloria) Love, John (Antionette) Love, Seymore Love, Bishop Lester (Fran) Love, Jr. of New Orleans, LA and Joe (Rose) Love of Atlanta, GA; 2 sisters, Magalean (Ovile) Williams, Etta Ruth Love of New Orleans, LA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives including special cousin, Joe Bridges and longtime friends, Elizabeth Dixon and Betty Webster, special friend, Robert Hall. The family would like to express special thanks to the Bridges, Magee and Burton families for their continuous love and support. Thanks to Hurley Medical Center, Avalon Hospice and Joyce Talley for their care and support during Leola’s special time of need.
