Mr. Leo Romallis Rodgers

RODGERS, Mr. Leo Romallis - age 78, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with memorial celebration of life commencing at 2 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Monday. Mr. Rodgers will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. There will be no public viewing. Mr. Leo Romallis Rodgers was born November 24, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of Lovell and Illa Faye Rodgers. Leo grew up in Eldorado, Arkansas, where his family worshipped at New Bethel Baptist Church. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and Grambling State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree. He also served his country in the military for four years as a Marine, earning the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Rodgers moved to Flint and began his 30 year career as a Math Teacher in the Flint Community Schools, Lowell Middle School and McKinley Middle School. Before Mr. Rogers retired, he also worked with the Junior Golf Program for a few years. Leo was a golf fanatic, his passion was playing as much golf, and as many holes as he could play before it got dark outside, with his favorite courses being in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Other hobbies included playing dominoes, bowling, watching sports on T.V., and listening to music, especially jazz and blues. Mr. Leo Romallis Rodgers leaves to cherish his memory: loving partner and companion, Linda Hendrix of Flint; 2 daughters, Dr. Sarah Smith of West Sacramento, CA, and Lyris Rodgers (Keith) Knight; 2 sons, Wilfred (Audrey) Rodgers of Stone Mountain, GA, and Lanford (Chianna) Rodgers of Frisco, TX; 8 grandchildren, Jordan Smith of Los Angeles, CA, Danielle Smith of Chicago, IL, Daniel, Evan, and Nathan Rodgers all of Stone Mountain, GA, Lena, Lindsey, and Lexington Rodgers, all of Frisco, TX; step-mother, Nellie Rodgers; 2 half-sisters, Sheila and Denise Rodgers; 2 half-brothers, Leonard and Prentise Rodgers all of Eldorado, AR; 2 cousins, Zelda Thompson of Gibsland, LA, and Cleveland Williams of Marrero, LA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Walt Worthen, childhood friends, David Ross, Jim Green, Charles Dorton, Billy Caver, Regis Allison, Rudy Collins, Jim Cleaves and all of his golf league buddies in Flint. Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his parents, Lovell and Illa Faye Rodgers; grandparents; aunts; uncles; 3 cousins, Alvern, Barbara, Susie “Sue”, and Laverne Rodgers. The family would like to express special thanks to all those who called, sent cards, or kept in touch through the Eldorado High School Reunions.
