JEFFERSON, Mrs. Lentene - Age 92, passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, January 26, 2008 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service at 11AM. Pastor Charles Elmer Johnson officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Saturday. Mrs. Jefferson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mrs. Lentene Jeferson was born May 18, 1915 in Canton, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Calhoun. A resident of Flint for 60 years and was educated in Canton, MS. Lentene was an Eastern Star, homemaker and loving wife. She loved to play cards, sew, fish and travel with her family and friends. Her interest was her family first, she raised 5 generations of children. She was a beautiful soul and any one who touched her life or came into her presence never felt alone and always from that point on had a loving friend. Mrs. Lentene Jefferson leaves to cherish her memory: grandchildren, Lentene Gibbs, Nathaniel and Norman Jefferson of Flint, Bernadine Hopkins of Chicago, IL, Sterling McKinney of Gulf Port, MS, Lillian, Ronald, Alexander, Robert and Deyatte Smith of Chicago, IL; 33 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and great nieces, Thelma Ruth (Calhoun) Horne of Saginaw, MI, Carla D. Aubrey, Venita R. Washington of Flint, Charleste, Corrine and Deloris Calhoun of Chicago, IL and Sylvia Calhoun of Las Vegas, NV; special nephews, Mandric V. Bonner of Muskegon, MI and Steven M. Washington of Flint; special cousin, Dora Lee Perkins of Chicago, IL ; a host of other relatives and friends including best friends of more than 40 years, Rosetta Lark and Virginia Griggs of Flint, will sadley miss her; special acknowledgement, Lentene Gibbs, James, Nathaniel and Norman Jefferson were her children as well as being grandchildren. Mrs. Lentene Jefferson was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy "Lil Boy" Jefferson; children, James Joshua, William Smith, Ora Meyers and Clara Smith; grandsons, James Jefferson and Montez Smith; granddaughter, Eileen Smith; parents, Charles and Sarah (Perkins) Calhoun, Sr.; sister, Corrine Calhoun; brothers, Sidney Calhoun and Charles Calhoun, Jr.; niece, Carolyn Cross; and special niece, Cynthia Raydene Simmons. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hurley Medical Center. A very special great-niece, Venita R. Washington for all the many years of love and kindness. To her daughter, Lentene Gibbs who she loved all the way.
