Len Mitchell

MITCHELL, Mr. Len - Age 60, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at his residence. Family hour 10:30AM Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Pastor Danyiel Griffin, officiating. Entombment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Wednesday. Mr. Mitchell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Tuesday. Mr. Len Mitchell was born July 14, 1945 in Butler, Alabama to Henry Peter and Georgia Mae Mitchell. He attended Choctaw County Schools and in 1965, he graduated as a Certified Electrician from Wenonah State Vocational Technical School in Birmingham, AL. Len served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Korea, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. On December 23, 1968, he was united in marriage to Rosa Marie Walker. In 1968, Len moved to Flint, Michigan. He secured employment at General Motors Buick Division and worked for 38 years, advancing to Skilled Trades Tool Repairman. Len accepted Christ at an early age and lived by the motto: "It is always better to give than to receive." He was a master craftsman and farmer, who freely gave of his time and talents to anyone in need, especially the elderly. He enjoyed working in his garden, and taking care of the family dog, "Boots." Mr. Len Mitchell leaves cherishing and maintaining his memory: wife, Rosa; daughters, VeRonica, Angela (Drency Dudley), and Aniesha; grandson, DeMarion Dudley; mother, Georgia Mae Mitchell of Lisman, AL; sisters, Virginia (Andre) Hunter and Earlene (Cortez) Bryant of Birmingham, AL, Henrietta (George) Sanders, and Pauline Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH; brothers, twin Glen (Lynette) Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH, Paul (Cristela) Mitchell of St. Clair Shores, MI, George (Jessie) and Donald (Joanne Rowe) Mitchell of Lisman, AL; special aunts, Edith Bell (Limmie) Kennedy of Cincinnati, OH, and Ella Mae Evans of Butler, AL; mother and father-in-law, Ella Ree and James Edward Walker of Vernon, AL; sisters-in-law, Sue Johnson of Flint, Edna Lee of Matteson, IL, Linda Jackson of Vernon, AL, and Sara Orr of Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers-in-law, Floyd Johnson of Flint, Johnnie Orr of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Bobby Walker of Vernon, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, Henry Peter Mitchell and sister, Shirley Mae Johnson. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church Family, Pastor Danyiel Griffin, American Legion Post 241, and Ms. Pamela Williams, Mr. Hollis (Debra) Newhouse of Flint, MI and Harvest Whatley.
