Mrs. Lelia Vina Poindexter

POINDEXTER, Mrs. Lelia Vina - Age 86, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church, 3212 S. Saginaw Street, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Antoine Shyne officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Poindexter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Lelia Vina (Duckett) Poindexter was born December 26, 1929 in Texarkana, Texas, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ellis Sr. and Augusta Duckett. She attended Flint Community School System, graduating from Flint Northern High School, Class of ’48. Lelia accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Antoine Shyne. Lelia was employed at Vlasic Foods, in Imlay City, MI. She held a Crew Leader position until her retirement. Lelia was a dedicated Volunteer. She spent quality time with the Federation Of The Blind-Flint and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for several years at Dort Elementary School. Lelia was considered a second mother to many and loved by all. She was the short lady, with the big heart. Lelia was always helping whoever she could. Mrs. Lelia Vina (Duckett) Poindexter leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband of 67 years, Theophlis Poindexter, Sr.; 2 daughters, Valgusta Taylor and Olivia (Terri) Spears; 4 sons, Theophlis E. Jr. (Michelle), James (Brenda), and the twins, Darryl (Sharon) and Derrick Poindexter; 11 grandchildren, Caprina (Carl) Poindexter-Beal of Yulee, FL; Karnecha (Fatoma) Siafa of Philadelphia, PA, Theophlis III (Dana), Jason (Jacinda, Marcus (Terra), James II, Darryl Jr., Damien, Shakiea, Chataqua and Quanniese Poindexter; 9 great-grandchildren, Janea, Amaya B., Jaleeyah, Allason, Amaya P., Aria, Selina, Immanuel and Samuel Poindexter; brother, Ellis Duckett, Jr., all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special cousin, Eva Stockman of Flint. Mrs. Poindexter was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kesonna Taylor; grandson, Christopher Poindexter; parents, Ellis Sr. and Augusta Duckett; sisters, Olivia Brown and Susie Skipper; niece, Joyce Pettiford; nephews, Ellis Duckett III and Samuel Skipper, Jr.; son-in-law, Perkin Spears; sister-in-law, Bernadine Duckett; brother-in-law, Samuel Skipper, Sr. and many other loving relatives. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Home & Hospice Nursing Staff, Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and staff, especially Curtis Johnson, Jr., and Pastor Antoine Shyne and the Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church family.
