MONTGOMERY, Mr. Lee “Chew”- Age 85, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at First Union Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Pastor Archie Powell, Jr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Montgomery will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mr. Lee V. “Chew” Montgomery, was born January 15, 1925 in Newton, Mississippi, the son of Townson and Edna (Moncrief) Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was a resident of Flint since 1952. He was employed at Buick, a division of General Motors for 35 years retiring January 1, 1988 and was a member of UAW Local #599. Mr. Montgomery loved working and people. He enjoyed playing pool and watching baseball games at Berston Field House. “Chew’s” whole conversation was about his grandchildren, they were his pride. He loved fishing, hunting and participating in his grandchildren’s afterschool activities. Mr. Montgomery was a loving, caring person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He would sponsor Christmas Dinners at the pool hall for anyone who wanted to eat. Mr. Lee V. “Chew” Montgomery leaves to cherish his memories: 5 daughters, Deborah K. (Fred) Marshall, Ollie Herd, Helen and Faye Chapman and Bobbie Rogers; 3 sons, Michael (Veronica) Coleman, Lamont and John Chapman, all of Flint; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Jake “JT” Montgomery of Manhattan, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Montgomery of Newton, MS and Naomi Montgomery; son-in-law, Jesse Rogers; a host of other relatives and friends including best friend, Robert Lee and special friends, James L. “Peter Gun” Young and Mr. Stone. Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brothers, James and Benny Montgomery. The family would like to express special thanks to H-Care, Hurley Medical Center 4th floor ICU, Dr. Marty, Dr. Ruth O’Neil, RN, Connie, Pastor Archie Powell, Jr. and the First Union Baptist Church family, the Johnson Family, granddaughter, Sade Chapman, special Barber and grandson, Micheal Lymon; caregivers; grandsons, Jamal and Damarius Chapman; daughters, Helen, Faye and Deborah and granddaughters, Shamiya, Tashianna and Shonteara for helping with his care.
