Mrs. Laureda Allen

ALLEN, Mrs. Laureda - Age 92, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Thursday, October 20, 2022, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, 9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Thursday. Mrs. Allen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and will be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Laureda (Rita) Stuart-Allen was born July 9, 1930 in Ozan Hempstead, Arkansas, the daughter of Tommie and Callie Stuart. Rita Stuart met the love of her life, Mr. Grant Allen Jr. and they were united in marriage on September 19, 1946. Seeking a better life, the couple moved to South Bend, Indiana, then to Flint, Michigan in 1953 where they settled in and made Flint their home. Together they had 10 children (losing a daughter at birth) With the death of her husband, Grant, at the early age of 36, Rita continued moving forward, knowing the task of raising 9 children, would not be an easy one. Her nightly prayers, increased her faith and her trust in God, giving her the power to overcome all obstacles that came her way. Rita loved listening to Sunday morning gospels while preparing that wholesome Sunday dinner and dessert for her family to enjoy. Mrs. Allen loved when the spring and summer months arrived, so she could plant her vegetable garden and flowers. She definitely had a green thumb, and her beautiful yard told the story. Her biggest joy was the family gatherings throughout the year, spending time with one another, creating special memories that will last a lifetime. Her “me time” to relax, was Bingo. The love she gave to others, was unconditional love and she stood in the gap for many that had lost their mother. Mrs. Rita was a jewel in the community where she lived. She was very proud of the men and women her children grew up to be, knowing that her resiliency and labor had not been in vain. She loved her children, and they loved her back. Mrs. Laureda (Rita) Stuart-Allen leaves to cherish her memory: 5 sons, Frank (Norma) Allen of Mt. Morris, MI, Fred (Denise) Allen, Lee Grant Allen, both of Flint Twp., MI, Larry Ray (Pauline) Allen of Flint and James Allen of Atlanta, GA; 4 daughters, Dorothy Anderson, Debra Allen, both of Flint, Robin Allen of Swartz Creek, MI and Teresa Beard of Flint; sister, Arnetta Perry of Stockton, CA; 31 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special cousin, Bonnie Miller; special daughter, Joann Tucker. Laureda was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Allen Jr.; daughter, Laura Allen; son, Ladell Shaw; parents, Tommie and Callie Stuart; sister, Wadie Morrison; and 2 brothers, Albert and Billy Stuart.
