FINNEY, Mrs. Laura - Age 75, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Heartland Hospice. Family hour 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 3:30 p.m., Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 3 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Finney will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Laura Inez Finney was born July 2, 1934 in Union Springs, Alabama, the daughter of Willie Lee and Brazil Jackson. Laura was a resident of Flint Township. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, a former member of Golden Leaf Baptist Church (Promise Tabernacle) and attended Family Worship Center. Laura retired from General Motors SPO after 28 years of service. She loved family events, shopping, baking the best sweet potato pies and giving them to family and friends. Laura was fun loving and loved singing, dancing, traveling and playing games, especially cards. She was also very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Laura Inez Finney leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Inez (Larry) Finney-Goodman, Wanda Finney-Parham, both of Flint and Shanda (Nick) Chappell of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 sons, Arthur (Gaynale) Finney of Flint, Michael (Gina) Finney of Ann Arbor, MI and Tony (Juliet) Finney of Oak Creek, WI; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah (Bishop Moses) Youngblood of Homestead, PA; 2 brothers, Willie Andrew Jackson of Flint and Billy (May Ola) Thomas of Brundidge, AL; 20 nieces; 20 nephews; 3 sisters-in-law, Ola Jackson of Detroit, MI, Helen Cooks of West Bloomfield, MI and Mildred Finney of Union Springs, AL. Mrs. Finney was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Finney, Sr.; daughter, Brenda Fields; grandson, Akil Goodman; parents, Willie Lee and Brazil Jackson; sister, Hazel Liggins; brothers, Robert Lee Jackson and Willie James “BoJack” Jackson; sisters-in-law, Francis Jackson, Zannie French and Lillian McGowan; and brothers-in-law, Marion Finney, Jr. and Otis Liggins. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of McLaren Regional Medical Center, Briarwood Manor and Heartland Hospice.
