BROWN, Mrs. Laura Helen - age 93, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2024, at Regency at Chene, Detroit, MI. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, October 26, 2024 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Rev. Patrick Sanders, Officiating. Interment Lovedale Cemetery, 5175 Bristol Road Burton, Michigan. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home 1:30 PM Saturday. Mrs. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed during the family hour only. Helen Laura Brown, born June 29, 1931 in Arkansas to Ms. Esther McGill who preceded her in death. "Helen", as she was affectionately called by everyone had 6 children. 5 sons. Frederick Charles, Theodore Charles, Arthur Charles, Bruce Charles and Rickey Charles, whom all preceded her in death and 1 surviving daughter, Lynette Charles of Detroit MI. Helen moved to Detroit in the 50’s where she started her career at General Motors Corporation. She was an outstanding employee, often praised for her dedication and dependability. Helen married the love of her life, Leon Brown in June of 1993, he preceded her in death a few short months later. At home, she was known for her amazing gift of culinary. Nothing made her happier than preparing a full spread, most times enough food to feed an army. But she got the most joy out of watching her loved ones partake in it. After retirement, she could be found in her garden tending to the collards, tomatoes, okra, peppers... this was one hobby that brought her much peace and contentment. Helen also had the keen ability to not just "play" the lottery, but very often she would "win" literally turning her dreams into financial gain. Always full of life, and ready to help anyone in need. She was very generous and she loved deeply. 5060 E. Outer Drive was "HOME" to many, as her door was always open to everyone. Helen was called home Saturday, October 12th in the comfort and company of loved ones. She leaves to cherish her memory 1 loving daughter, Lynette Charles; a host of grandchildren, great-grands, great-great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
