Mr. Larry Charles Sweeney

SWEENEY, Mr. Larry Charles - Age 69, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Greater Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C., 6702 N. Dort Hwy., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Bishop Rodger Jones Host Pastor. Rev. Johnnie Banks Officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Sweeney will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Larry Charles Sweeney was born January 26, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the son of Mineola Sweeney and Ernest Nichols. Larry graduated from Mitchell High School in 1964 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Detroit College of Business. Larry retired as a Supervisor from Truck and Bus, a Division of General Motors in 1998 Mr. Sweeney was also an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Larry married the love of his life, Emma Jean Hicks on January 2, 1992, and was father to four sons and a one daughter and had 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Larry Charles Sweeney is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years: Emma Jean Sweeney; 3 sons, Larry Charles “Michael” Sweeney, Galen Charles Sweeney, and Nicholas Charles Sweeney; 1 daughter, Theresa (Kenneth) Butts, all of Flint; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; mother, Mineola Jaggers; 3 brothers, Johnnie D. (Edith) Banks and Kenny Wayne (Rene) Banks, all of Bossier City, LA, and Ricky (Lisa) Banks of Grand Blanc, MI; 8 sisters, Sandra Kay Blade, Judith Ann (Archie) Gober, Veronica Yvette (Anthony) Leonard, all of Haughton, LA, Teri Lynn (Teddy) Greene, of Slidell, LA, Debra Sue (Ernest) Walker, Pamela Sue Banks, all of Bossier City, LA, Robyn Rene Banks and Roslyn Faye (Stanley) Pipkins, all of Shreveport, LA; 2 stepbrothers, Grover (Carol) Jaggers of Carrollton, TX and Marvin (Diane) Jaggers of Minden, LA; 1 stepsister, Mary Lee Jaggers of Bossier City, LA; 2 brothers-in-law, Jimmie (Rosemary) Hicks of Flint and Johnny (Pearl) Hicks of Jacksonville, AL; 2 sisters-in-law, Annie Pearl (Willie) Strong of Flint and Azilee Hudson of Wilton, AL; 3 aunts, Ernestine Sweeney of Saginaw, MI, Ernestine Sweeney and Loretta Sweeney, both of Flint; a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends survive. Mr. Sweeney was preceded in death by his son, Latry Sweeney; father, Ernest Nichols; father and mother-in-law, Willie and Gracie Hicks; brothers-in-law: Jesse Hicks, Willie Hicks, Thomas Hicks and Glen Brown; sisters-in-law, Sarah Morris and Rose Poplar; 2 aunts, Leola Brooks and Mamie Morris; 4 uncles, Clarence Sweeney, Leroy Sweeney, Sr., Webster “Charlie” Sweeney and Eddie Sweeney. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Bishop Roger L. Jones, Sr. and the Greater Holy Temple COGIC family, Pastor Timothy Stokes and the Family Worship Center International Church, the Hicks and Cooley families, Donald Bonds and Dr. Zaki.
