Mr. Larry Darnell Harris-Banks

HARRIS-BANKS, Mr. Larry Darnell - Age 63, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015 at City of Faith, 3202 Forest Hill Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Patricia Williams, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Harris Banks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Larry Harris Banks was born on January 16, 1952 in Altheimer, Jefferson County, Arkansas, the son of Mr. W.T. Banks and Sara Lue Harris Banks. Larry moved to Flint, Michigan as a young child. Early on, Larry set himself apart from others by displaying amazing talent as an athlete. He became the first sophomore in Flint Northern history to play varsity basketball, football, and baseball, and eventually go on to become a nine-letterman. He later played college basketball at Ferris State University where he earned a degree in education. Larry used his many athletic talents to mentor young athletes in the community by coaching summer league basketball for boys and girls. Larry worked for the Flint Community schools and General Motors before beginning a 30 year career as a truck driver, a career that became his passion. In August of 1980, Larry married Joyce Luster, his wife for 28 years. Larry was a caring man, able to find a friend wherever he went. He was also a loving father and grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend. His good nature and immense presence will surely be missed. Mr. Larry Harris Banks leaves to cherish his memory: Joyce Harris, wife of 28 years; mother, Sarah Lue Harris-Banks; step-mother, Audrey Banks; daughters, Lisa Horne, Allison Harris, Simone (Trenton) Walker, Olivia Harris, all of Flint and Spring Gant of Charlotte, North Carolina; and son, James (Kat) Jackson of Renton, Washington; 8 grandchildren, LaRhon Kearse, of Miami, Florida, Taylor and Tyler Rosebrough, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kyra Horne, Nasir McKenney, Kendall Williams, Xavier McKenney, and Laurence Walker, all of Flint, Michigan; sisters, Jackie (Aubrey) Lee, Cynthia Gilliam, Benita Smith, Sheila (William) Morris, Lena Fox-Hunter, and Anita Miller, all of Flint, Phyllis Austin and Tarsua Barbee, of North Little Rock, Arkansas; brothers, Leonard (Ericka) Fox, of Clarkston, Michigan, and Edward Austin and Travis Austin, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Harris Banks was preceded in death by his father, W.T. Banks; grandparents, William and Mintlean Banks; aunts, Catherine Wedlow and Betty Banks; and uncles, Mack, Donner Ray, and Charles Banks, Sr.
