Mr. Lamar Jones

JONES, Mr. Lamar - Age 62, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Supt. Quintin Marshall, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Lamar Jones was born May 1, 1951 in McCall, Mississippi, the son of Mike and Louisa Jones. He graduated from Eva H. Harris High School in Brookhaven, MS. Lamar also attended Detroit College of Business in Flint, MI. He was a hardworking man that labored for more than 35 years for Chevrolet Metal Fabricating, a division of General Motors. He was married for 42 years and had three children. Lamar was a generous man that was always there in a time of need. Most of all, he was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved family gatherings because it gave him the opportunity to work the grill, laugh, dance and enjoy family. He loved mentoring the younger generation in the family. He enjoyed playing chess, fishing, sports and traveling. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Mr. Lamar Jones leaves to cherish him memory: wife, Sandra Jones of Flint; 3 daughters, Yolanda (Sean) Fortner, Teresa (Jeffery) Dukes and Sharisse (Adam) Merriwether, all of Flint; God-daughter, Christina Franklin; grandchildren, Gerard, Samone, Sean Jr., Malik, Savannah, Diamond, Isaiah, Guwan, Adam Jr. and Adrian, all of Flint; great-grandchild, Ja’Kari of Flint; 3 sisters, Gloria Turner and Carrie Jones, both of Flint and Dorothy (Winfrey) Lewis of Kentucky; 3 brothers, Albert (Annette) Jones of Flint, Jesse (Gloria) Jones and Mike Jones, both of Mississippi; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, including special aunts, Pearlene Price and Mary Ransifer-Ward; mother-in-law, Mattie Byrd of Mississippi; 5 sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Fells of Flint, Bonita Fells, Tammy Dawson and Pamela Fells, all of Mississippi; 4 brothers-in-law, Melvin Pruitt, Richard Fells and Ronald Fells, all of Mississippi; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Robert (Wayne) Franklin, Reggie and Harvey (Tuffy) Lewis. Mr. Lamar Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Laouisa Jones, sisters, Gladys Pruitt and Lena Bass; grandmother, Alma Brown and brothers, Alton Jones and Lewis Jones.
