Mr. Keith V. "Sluggo" Banks, Jr.

BANKS, Mr. Keith V. Jr. "Sluggo" - Age 47, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr. officiating. Interment Great Lakes National cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Banks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Keith Vernon “Sluggo” Banks. Jr. was born September 18, 1968 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. Keith Vernon Banks, Sr. and Teresa Fowler. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the tender age of 4, becoming a member of Grace Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. “Sluggo” served on the Usher Board, Vesper and Adult Choirs, Youth Army and Men’s Chorus. He had planned to join the Armor Bearer Ministry, upon his recovery. Keith attended Flint Community School System, graduating from Flint Academy High School, “Class of ‘86.” Immediately after graduation he joined the United States Navy, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1994. “Sluggo” was employed with the United States Postal Service for 22 years. He absolutely loved his position as a Mail Carrier and his postal family at the Flint Northside Station. “Sluggo” loved sports and was a serious music connoisseur. He enjoyed various genres including Gospel, R&B, Blues, Old School Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Rock and Country. “Sluggo” was known for his sports acumen. He was a two-time Fantasy Football Champion, in a league with Larry Roy, his co-workers and friends. “Sluggo” took pleasure in sharing his wealth of knowledge about music and sports with anyone who would listen. Men from all walks of life enjoyed conversing with Keith. He truly adored his family and after his diagnosis, meaningful family relationships became the most important thing in his life. Mr. Keith Vernon “Sluggo” Banks, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 19 years, Timiya “Miya” Banks of Grand Blanc, MI; daughter, Kiara Banks of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sons, Justice Hayes and Jordan Banks; parents, Teresa Fowler, all of Grand Blanc, MI and Keith (“Mama” Linda) Banks of Flint; mother and father-in-law, Adris and Helen Womack; sister, Tiffany (Marvin) Jennings of Grand Blanc, MI; brother, Terance (LaTanya) Banks, of Flint Township, MI; 3 nieces, AaLeah Young, Lindsey Jennings and Noelle Banks; 3 nephews, Richard and Terance Banks and Marvin Jennings III; 4 aunts, Valerie Fowler of Meridianville, AL, Sheila Fowler of Grand Blanc, MI, Pam (John) McKeown of Flint and Bethany Banks of University Heights, OH; uncle, George (Linda) Fowler of Flint; cousins, Kelvin Green and Sean Banks; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Cletus Baber, Darryl Bryant, Wendell Countess, Andrae Kelley, Otis Nunn, Larry Roy, and his Northside Postal Service family. Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, George & Lorraine Fowler, Wilbur & Helen Banks; and uncle, Cecil Fowler. The family would like to express special thanks to all of his caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice, Hurley Medical Center, Dr. Mattingly, Dr. Marika, Dr. Salimi, Dr. Danish, Dr. Fahrner, and the staff of Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute.
