Mrs. Kawonda Patique Thomas Finney

THOMAS-FINNEY, Mrs. Kawonda Patique - Age 46, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at her residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, March 23, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral services commencing at 2:00 PM Evan. Dr. Carolyn Davis, officiating. Friends and family will assemble at the chapel 1:30 PM Saturday. Mrs. Finney will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed March 22, 2024, from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Kawonda Thomas Finney was born in Flint, Michigan, on April 3, 1977, to Robert Steele and Lora Thomas. Kawonda attended Flint public schools and Baker College. After many years of work experience through various jobs, she was a hard worker. She often would acknowledge her grandfather, Calvin Thomas and his thirty plus year tenure as a General Motors shop worker. Kawonda understood work ethic and passed this down to her children. She was a full-time worker and manager at White Castle for 5 years. Kawonda enjoyed spending time with her daughters, laughing, junk talking, comedy shows and watching her reality tv shows. Kawonda was known for being immerse with joy and excitement, hilarious inside jokes, and not taking any mess from anyone. Kawonda’s passing was unexpected, but she was in the peace and comfort of her own home. Kawonda was a daughter, mother, sister, niece, cousin and a god-grandmother (known affectionately by her god-granddaughter as “Gege KiKi”). She was a shining light of humor, wit, and laughter. Her smile could brighten up room and could bring joy to anyone’s life, but if you pressed the wrong button of her’s, watch out! She loved hard and fought harder. She didn’t let other opinions dictate her decisions. Kawonda Thomas Finney leaves to cherish her memory: father, Robert (Linda) Steele Sr. of Flint, MI; mother in-law, Arlene (Odie) Grayer; 2 daughters, MoNeka and Imani Young, both of Flint, MI; stepson, Idris Finney Jr. of Flint, MI; god-daughter, Searis West-Brantley of Flint, MI; god-granddaughter, Searis “Aris” West-Green; sister, Tanisha “Nikki” Steele of Flint. MI; god-sister, Rochelle Grubbs of Arkansas; 2 brothers, Ken Hill Peoples and Robert “Lil Bob” Steele II; 9 aunts, Erma Eleanya of Arizona, Sheila (Lee Lewis) Thomas, Karen “Pebbie” (Billie Cain) Thomas, Dr. Carolyn D. Davis, Vivian Jones, Janice Steele-Anderson, Linda Steele, Marilyn (William) Steele-Orr, and Patricia (Terry) Rawls all of Flint, MI; 2 uncles, Kerry Thomas and Curtis Steele Jr.; 2 nieces, Aubree Steele and Shantazia Donaldson, both of Flint, MI; nephew, Robert “LB” Steele III; a host of cousins including special cousins, Melvin Steele, Bobby Jackson Jr., Jahmal Winbush, Jeanan Jackson, Le’mott “Boopa” Thomas, Cameron “Buddy” Thomas, Shayla Thomas, Joshua Harvey, Jevon Harvey, Jaya Thomas, Le’mott Thomas Jr., Harthana Thomas and Taylor “Pikachu” Cayton; and Best Friend Pamela Williams of Flint, MI; a host of other relatives and friends. Kawonda was preceded in death by her mother, Lora Thomas; grandparents; Calvin and Lillie Mae Thomas, Curtis Sr and Vivian Steele; sister, Michelle Steele; brother, Shavante Pippins; aunts, Brenda Wilson and Cora Collins-Winbush: uncles, Douglas Keith Thomas, Odell Collins Sr, Tom Lewis and Rev.
