JIRDON, Mrs. Kareene - Age 50, passed away September 22, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Greater New Bethel C.O.G.I.C., 925 W. Atherton Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Brian Grundy, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Tuesday. Viewing will be during family hour only. Mrs. Kareene D. Jahvaughn Jirdon was born on June 22, 1973 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Helen Dianne Harris and Lonnie Brent. Kareene passed away on September 30, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center. Kareene passed away on September 30, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center. Kareene graduated from Flint Northwestern High School and was a member of the Marching Band. She attended Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. Kareene was formerly employed for over 20 years at Walmart (Corunna Rd.) as an Automotive Manager. As a talented musician, she shared her gift of drumming at Greater New Bethel Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) where she was a Member. Being a karaoke enthusiast, the mics, machines and all the musical instruments were always on the ready. She was gifted with great culinary skills earning the nickname of “Chef”. Often cooking for family, friends and neighbors, making sure she gave you enough for three or four meals. It was important to Kareene that she support those in the community who were diagnosed with breast cancer. For years prior to her diagnosis she participated in the Annual Breast Cancer Walk and encouraged others to walk with her. Kareene was an amazing mother who valued each of her children individually and loved them fiercely. One of her happiest moments was when she married Stephen Jirdon. They enjoyed a loving, playful, supportive relationship. She loved and treasured her grandmother, Mildred and all of her aunts and uncles. Family was important to her and she often hosted many large gatherings bringing together her and her husband’s extended families, friends and neighbors. Kareene, affectionately known as “Von”, leaves to cherish her memory: loving husband, Stephen Jirdon; 4 sons, Russell Sr., Airyc Handy, Thomas Handy and Kentrell Bell; 2 daughters, Thavia Handy and Santoya Handy; father, Lonnie Brent; grandmother, Mildred Brent; brothers, Joseph (Monica), John (Kinya) and Joshua Williams, all of Flint; sisters, Kenyelle (Damian Sr.) Collins of Peoria, IL, Kristeenah (Joseph) Page of Lansing, MI, Danisha (Arthur) Rowland of Flint, Kathryn Williams of Palm Coast, FL; 3 grandsons, Russell Jr., Andrew and Jack Handy; mother-in-law, (aka Von’s bonus mother) Cleophus Stewart; sisters-in-law, Angela (Calvin) Williams, Rhonda Jirdon, Stephanie (Kevin Jr.) Avery, Stacey, Yolanda and Ashley Beasley; brother-in-law, Mark Beasley; many beloved cousins including Tina Streeter and Icelinn Wallace; numerous dear friends including special friends, Tanya Smith, Vivian Clark and Kamesha Edelen; a host of uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins including the Harris, Brent, Williams and Jirdon families, Greater New Bethel COGIC family, Page Street neighbors including, Mrs. Georgia, her Walmart family and her huge fur baby and protector, Duke.
